We are stopping overnight in Switzeland do I need to take any Swiss francs or do they accept Euro's

Cafes & shops near the border accept €s & have signs stating that, so €s are accepted in Swiss in some places.

Also note that places that do accept euros will usually offer a poor rate of exchange.

... but the upside is that the Swiss franc is tied to the euro so the exchange rate shouldn't float up and down. Probably safest to get some cash out of a machine in Switzaerland if you have one of the "better" debit cards or stock up in UK?

We flew into Geneva airport last December on a Friday and stayed overnight in the city before getting a train into France. We did not have any Swiss francs with us. The hotel and the restaurant were happy with a debit card but a couple of times I wanted to buy a coffee or something small and without any francs I could not. With hind sight I should have taken some, I would do so on another occasion.

Every shop/gas station/cafe/restaurant/hotel etc in Switzerland will accept euros, even the hiking lodge in the mountains that made my wife and I a sandwich last year

You'll get your change in swiss francs, try and spend them before you leave, no where else wants them

By the by, the coinage in Switzerland has never changed since the 1880's at least, so if you do have Swiss francs, you can use them.

I found a handful when we cleared a relative's house, who had been on holiday there. I took them with me on a French trip, and drove into Switzerland to spend them. The nice man in the kiosk told me about the coinage. One of my francs was from the 1880's, but was still valid, maybe worth more to a collector! Bought some chocolate with it.

However be advised that prices there are extremely high. I have a nephew, who is an english teacher based there and he never buys anything there. Once every two weeks he travels into France and buys everything he needs. Wages there are very high, but so is the prices. he pays £2,600 rent and £800 electris charges EVERY month.

Stock up before you arrive there, but don't worry they all accept credit/debit cards. Beautiful country, very clean and the air is so so pure.
