We are going in August and have been told the main town is very busy so are looking for a quiet family site around the lake, Nothing too fancy. Also lots I have seen look mega expensive.

Welcome to the forum Spammy.

I'm afraid there are no quiet places by the lake itself in August. There are quieter sites in the hills overlooking the lake, such as www.camping-des-ferrieres.com   And there are quieter places in the Alps if you go well away from Annnecy altogether. But Annecy is hugely popular at that time of year, and understandably so.

 Happy holidays to you.

Camping le Taillefer at Doussard. Family site views over lake, quiet, nice friendly owners.
To visit Annecy take lake ferry from Doussard. Access to lake shore easy, plenty of cycle tracks run along lakeside.

Hi, I've stayed at Camping La Ravoire (4*), Doussard .... a few miles from Annecy town, its about half a mile from the lake itself.  I have also stayed up in the hills, at Camping l'Escale (3*) in Le Grand Bornand ... much quieter site and more space, lovely views and there is loads to do that is very reasonably priced.  Am going back to this site again this year, also will spend 6 days at Camping le lac Bleu (never been to it yet but its on the lake shore of Annecy so I suspect it will be busy/crowded ...).

We stayed Here, about 3 years ago.

Short stroll to the lake, not many (if any) english there, loads of Dutch.

Indoor and outdoor pool, shop, bar, takeaway, play area, table tennis tables.

Don't remember it being too expensive.

This site:

Univers du Lac

Impasse de la Tuilerie 74410 Saint-JoriozAnnecy, Rhône-Alpes

is about as basic as it gets for Lake Annecy, I've reviewed it on the blog but no details on here so I will try and add some.  It's a 1 star site to give you some idea. It's in a quiet backwater just meters from the lake in St Jorioz.  There is ehu and an old toilet/shower/washing up block.  I'm not sure if it's pre-bookable the owner lives in a shabby farmhouse down the road and doesn't appear on site until after 3pm.  We loved it, almost wild camping in beautiful surroundings and within walking distance of the beach and shops, very laid back. 17
