We're setting off on the 27th June down to Biscarrose then thought of heading towards the Pyrenees. We've only got 16 days so obviously won't be able to explore everywhere, but just wondering what "not to be missed" places &/or campsites you guys recommend?

Never been before so no idea, we have a road map & pretty open to ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Caroline,

We arrived yesterday at Pyrenees Natura Campsite at Estaing (near Lourdes)and it is really lovely. We are in a mobile home but knowing that people on this site like to know these things, the shower blocks are superb and the site is immaculate. The setting is wonderful (and they do good food at reasonable prices).

Very friendly people excellent Wifi (€20 for the week)and mobile reception.

On the basis that a picture is worth a thousand words have added a couple from the site and one from Lac d'Estaing which is just 5 km up the road.

Have a great holiday wherever you choose.

John

Not sure if this has been posted before but the free motorway between Bordeaux and Biarritz (formally the N10) is now a toll road. It has been taken over by Vinci and extended to 2x3 lanes so they are charging tolls.

Currently they are not charging the full price as the work is not completed. When overtaking lorries be aware of some very tight lanes where they have squeezed two lanes together.

There is a video of the driving route here: Biarritz to Bordeaux

Col du Tourmalet is still closed due to the snow they have had and the Col d'Abisque only opened yesterday. The snow is starting to melt and the rivers are torrents of meltwater at the moment. Forecast for tomorrow is 30C so will get even more water.

Dutch couple opposite is at Camping Pyrenees Natura have been here several times before at this time of year and have never seen snow on the mountains at this time of year.

Been a bonus for us as the views have been brilliant. Photo taken on our way back to the site yesterday from Argeles Gazost.

We were at Natura early May..the snow had just been cleared off the pitches and parts of the lake road were still covered in avalanches.
When the sun shines it is the best place ever.

We've got an amazing shot, taken from the Mediterranean, of the Pyrenees entirely covered in snow, against a backdrop of a brilliant clear blue sky.  We've been earlier than we were this year, and there has been much less snow - indeed there was less at Christmas two years ago when we were staying with our friend.
