Hi

We have breakdown cover through the caravan club (Green Flag/Mayday) for UK cover but we're going to France in July and I want to take out breakdown cover.  The one that the caravn club recommends seems really expensive - can anyone recommend who to go with?  We have a motorhome 7m long (8m when bikes on back) and 3 m high.

Thanks

Suzanne

Try ADAC the German Breakdown organization. €98.70 for one year with excellent cover. We have been with them for 5 years, used them twice and cannot fault their service.

If you need more detail let me have you email address.

The €98 ADAC roadside and recovery for a couple also includes medical insurance.
And the kicker? if you breakdown in the UK its the AA that comes out to you

To be fair, ADAC doesn't offer 'medical insurance' just merely some assistance during emergencies which may include medical problems.  These include such things as reuniting left at home prescription drugs, for example, or providing a hotel room if someone else is ill, and repatriation in some emergencies - but doesn't include cover for treatment.  However, it's still a very good value package for year round cover in Britain and in Europe, for driver and partner, in any car, and includes some family members as drivers too!

Yes but the ADAC cover does cover full Repatriation which to me is worth the money:

This is what happened:
An unexpected acute illness or a serious injury on a trip makes for a repatriation necessary.
What we can do for Plus members and young traveler:
Acquisition of the entire organization and implementation of the return shipment if it is medically reasonable and justifiable, and, where the transport capacity
Accompanied by a medical professional
global takeover of all transport costs for you
only for Plus members
global takeover of all transportation costs for your (marriage) partner and your minor children
Acquisition of the organization, implementation and transportation costs for other vehicle occupants if you are traveling in Europe

We've never been quite able to make our minds up about breakdown insurance in this country for cars. Sometimes I've had it, generally I haven't, and have never really needed it. We've always taken it out for going to France though.

We bought a minibus and did a self conversion 2 years ago. Bought Arrival cover through the caravan and camping club and the price jumped last year and then jumped again this year to £175 - after the discount. Phoned them to get a price for going to France and it was going to cost £106 additional payment for 2 1/2 weeks. I've cancelled and gone with ADAC. Very civil lady on the phone, answered it immediately, took our payment by creditcard and phoned back later with the membership numbers pending arrival of our membership cards.

I don't know how its going to pan out, hopefully as on every other occasion we've gone abroad, we wont need it. If the price had been anywhere near close I would have stuck with the RAC but £281 is just stupid money.
