I am looking to maybe book this site for the last 2 weeks in August next year staying in a Roan static. Its a much bigger site than I'd normally go for but DD will be 15, she loves the look of it (as does her friend who will be coming with us). The site has lots going on, the must have water slides for DD and it also appeals as within walking distance of shops, bars, market, train station etc.
So I was wondering if we flew into a nearby airport and made our way to the site would we need a car for the fortnight or would the buses, trains and on foot be more than enough?

I've been to Lake Garda a number of times, but not stayed in Peschiera. We find we don't use our own transport at all, except for getting there, road or air. If the campsite is near enough to the lake to walk, and the ferry stop is near enough too, then I wouldn't bother with a car. I'm not familiar with the roads at the bottom end of the lake, but further up they are congested, and at the top on the west side, quite frightening with tunnels.

If you fly into Verona, it's not too far to the south of the lake, probably about half an hour or so by car.

You would be fine without a car. Locally walking or boats on the lake would get you around.

Verona and Venice are within easy direct reach by train from Peschiera del Garda.

We've been lots of times both with a hire car and without. You would be completely fine using boats and buses - to be honest the lake roads get so busy a car is a bit of pain. We found we didn't use it much as the roads were narrow and full, we did use our own at times too which wax okay as we weren't as worried about the odd dent ! Honestly most people use the boats. The only thing will be a trip in from Verona but its about a 30 min drive and you could either arrange a private transfer ( we did that a few times too actually) or try the bus (not as sued about that one).

thanks for the info. Just deciding if Bella Italia is worth the price difference but do like the idea of being able to walk into town, markets etc.

Gardaland is only down the road from Bella Italia, if you go after 6 pm you get in for half price, no ques and is much cooler. We stayed in Lasize up the lake a bit and drove every where with the kids as it was much cooler. The next year we flew and left the kids with their aunt, had no car and never missed it.

Personally, I'd have a car if you want to see anything. We walked into peschiera and its great to be so close to a 'town' but its small, had a post office, ice cream kiosk and a small amount of bar/ restaurants & cafes but wasn't too inspiring. But Bella Italia is massive and varied, restaurants and bars a better standard than most commercial campsites so between the two you may find it enough.   I'd say try it without and if bored then hire a car via the very helpful reception.
