Taking a trip down to the Pyrenees via Champagne and Provence. Was hoping to stay at sites similar to UK CL type sites but struggling to find any websites with listings. They all seem to show the larger type sites.

I think the camping a la ferme website might help you.
If you are after quietish sites without bars, entertainment etc then have a look at camping municipal. There are lots of sites that might be big in pitches but are quiet. We stayed at one last year called camping la gracay here.
Its a big site with showers and loo but there were only about 4 or 5 campers around while we were there.

There are sites like CL's though they are rarer in France and almost all will have hook-ups and a Sanitary block as European caravans don't have batteries and many don't have toilets.  You can find rural ones on the website Bienvenue a la Ferme (Select Sejours and look under Camping) - or you could choose to stay at a Municipal campsite (one run by the local Mairie, usually reasonably priced, and close to a town or village to buy your baguettes).  The village municipal sites tend to be small.

You can also google 'Aire Naturelle' and the name of a town or village and you may find something in the area you want.

You can also use Camping France to select the sort of site you're looking for. It lists almost all the campsites in France.  Except, strangely, for some British owned ones, which generally can be found in the back of the Caravan Club magazine, or some on the  Campsite search function on this forum.

CL's in France, If they exist, they are usually British owned. As has been mentioned there are the smaller Farm type sites although they are larger than CL's If you go out of the main season most sites in France are far from full if you stay away from the main tourist destinations. We are currently on a delightful Dutch owned site in the Lot Valley which has 80 pitches but only 10 in use.

Nearest equivalent could be Aire Naturelles, these are by definition small basic sites of 25 pitches or less & size of 1 hectare & do have showers, toilets & ehu. Google 'Aire Naturelle' for more info & locations, not many have websites.
