We are travelling down to the Vendee (le Pin Parasol) on the 31st July doing the dover to calais route.  i have doen it before with a small mototrhome but this time i am towing my caravan.  I dont think we chose the best route last time as it seeemed to have cost us a fortune in toll roads.  Any body got any tips on getting there as fast as possible and as cheap as possible.  Help!!!!!!!

thanks

Car/caravan is same class2 toll rate as motorhome over 2mtres high. In France you mostly can't get anywhere cheap & quick, its one or t'other. Starting from Calais you could go off towards Caen before Rouen & go Rennes & Nantes which includes plenty of non toll dual carriageway but it is about 60miles further than the all toll route from Rouen down A28/A11 past Le Mans & Angers. Both these routes are doable in a day.

Alternatively take 2 days & follow same route to Rouen/Le Mans/Angers but use the old N roads(mostly now reclassified as D rds)that follow the route of the toll autoroutes & if you get bored you can get onto autoroute at next junction. The autoroute sections between Calais & Boulogne & Abbeville & Rouen are toll free. There is a good choice of campsites for an overnight stop halfway.

Calais to Nantes by quickest route is 48€ toll one way for your car & small trailer. Find toll amounts on autoroutes. Going by the other suggested route via Caen & Rennes cuts toll to 25€ but slightly more mileage.
