Hi. Have booked this site for the second week of our three week trip to France in August.
Was wondering if anyone could help with any suggestions for places to visit or things to do in the area.
We've already been to Millau, but will definitely give the town another visit. Would prefer to keep within about 30 minutes of the site, unless there's something exceptional.

Villefranche de Rouergue on market day!  It's a bit further than you want, but the town is interesting, and the market is once of the best we've seen in that area.

If you haven't already done it, a trip up the Gorges du Tarn as far as Sainte Enemie.

The cheese caves at Roquefort -- interesting and definitely worth a visit if you like blue cheese.

Any of the Knights Templar villages - there are many in the area, some more touristy than others.

If you have children they may like Micropolis - my niece and nephew did.

Again, if you have children, Les Loups de Gavaudan (wolves 'in the wild') - again a bit further than you want.

Almost anywhere, and everywhere else!

Thanks Val. Villefranche looks very interesting, as does travelling further up the Gorges du Tarn. Really liked the look of the area from the A75 but not explored further yet.
My eldest son wanted to visit Micropolis last time we were in the area but the youngest wasn't too keen. I think they'd both enjoy it now so will add to the list.
Is Rodez worth a visit? We've only got a week in the area, so want to spend some time on the site and at the lake, and don't want to travel to visit towns if our time would be better spent elsewhere.

I wouldn't bother with Rodez - whilst it's got a nice Cathedral, and a few nice narrow streets, it's more of a working town without many tourists.  Save the day for somewhere else.

If you go to Villefranche go so you get there early in the morning on market day (Thursday) then a side trip to Najac is definitely worth while.

However, if the weather's good, and you only want one trip out then I'd definitely just do the Gorges du Tarn.

Generally Caussanel would n't be my choice as a base to travel, it is a bit iff the beaten track. That said the site offers loads, and for me a week will fly by on site. keeping generally around the lake is n't a problem, there are nice bits for a short evening out, but I would get your mind into site mode, it's a great place for kids with loads of communal activities assuming they are reasonable mixers. August will be largely Dutch or UK, so language is not likely to be a problem.

We're there the second week of August and it's the second week of a three week trip for us. The first week is in the Dordogne so we'll probably be out and about a fair bit, and apart from planning to go to Parc Asterix on the way home, we have nothing planned for the third week. So this second week looks ideal for staying around the lake perhaps with just one or two days out.
So looking forward to it, only three weeks and six days til we go!!

Supermarts are not visible, seem to remember we found an 8 till 8 type going anticlock round the lake, so if it matters go stocked with beers and wine, though again from memory the on site bars were n't a rip off. Foodwise profit from a bit of local produce /shops. Happy hunting. But it is a site with fond memories for us , largely associated with the various friendly Dutch people we met. Depending where your pitch is, and most are similar, they do pack em in, but we had a great time, and much appreciated our neighbours. Not really the place to live behind a windbreak. Have fun.

We loved it. Our favourite site in France so far.
It's quite "French" in a very good way. There's a good mix of nationalities; French (about 70%), then Dutch and Brits in equal numbers.
Pitches are large and we had a fantastic view of the lake which you can swim in or take your own boat on.
Organised entertainment with things like a zip line for the kids, climbing wall, organised bike rides and walks in the day. Quizzes, a band, and one night a disco, usually finished about 10.30 or 11pm.
It was a bit of a way to get anywhere but the site was so good that we didn't feel like we had to go elsewhere. We did go to Millau, and wanted to do the velo-rail but unfortunately they were fully booked.
The pools are ok, with a couple of reasonable slides, but the main swimming pool is a little on the small side, however not a problem if you don't mind swimming in the lake.
It was a very well organised site and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. It was quiet at night.
I'm going to do a review soon, but might not be for a couple of weeks. Got loads to catch up with after four weeks away!
