Haven't been for a while but we did enjoy the site yes it got noisy around the pool area but away from that we found it ok a lot depends on how close you are to the pool and entertainment. A little train goes around to pick you up to take you to the beach and lots of good cycling. You probably won't see your kids all week apart from when they are hungry!
It's 1997 since we last camped there and it was early June - fairly steady but not heaving - the highlights for me were the hoopoes and the red squirrels - you're camped in a pine forest. I recall it was a bit of a treck to the beach and it was very steeply shelving so you could be out of your depth only a few yards into the sea - although this could have been just that particular stage of the tide.
We were there 8 years ago and stayed in one of the eurocamp tents. Site is in pine forest so quite shady. Lots going on during day with lively bar at night. Enjoyed our stay the first week but unfortunately during the second we were flooded out twice during flash floods - water and mud covering everything . Cleaned up the first time but after the second we insisted that we were moved, which we were after much arguing with the camp managers.
The year after we stayed at a municipal campsite just around the corner called les sablers which we found much better and no floods !!

Looks like you can only have a full week here and on certain dates in high season which is a shame , its very expensive for the 5 of us, prices drop loads on 24 Aug but that would mean a hard drive all the way home to get back for school, so its going to cost a load the week before that.
Anyone else got any views?
Thanks

We stayed next door at the Camping Albret Plage in 2003 for a fraction of the cost. It's a really nice site, a lot more low key. No pool though. Same beach though
And there were people staying there who accessed the entertainment at the Vieux Port
Some things (like the circus) are just outside the Vieux Port but open to all.
I've been a few times, though not since 2008. It's certainly a huge busy noisy site, so great if that's what you're looking for. We have enjoyed our times there, especially the kids. I like the tall pine trees. Also I quite liked the communal bbq areas, for the socialising.
The pools were always overcrowded in high season (but where is that not the case?), but these were completely re-done a couple of years ago, and I've not heard any comparisons of before/after.
The beach is fabulous, (and has lifeguards). Most people seem to get there by bike, but there is a small road train that goes around the site then up to the beach. A euro a trip when I last used it. The walk isn't too bad though.
The price of this site is now something of an issue -hence we have been elsewhere. I've seen some discounts out of season, but it's too far for us to consider for a half term etc.

Our family - children & grandsons - have booked a mobile home at Vieux Port with Lifestyle holidays from 24th August so we decided to do a recce after we had read bad reviews. We arrived on June 10th (just under a month ago). It has a massive parking area for new arrivals!! However the reception staff were very friendly and gave us a print-out of all the available pitches which had no flood problem in the then current rain, and they told us to find one we liked and go back and tell them the number, which we did. The mobile homes are fairly close together but the pitches are pretty big and those around the boundaries looked super but were too wet for a motorhome at that time. It is a massive site - 1600 pitches but well organised. The swimming pools are fantastic and there are loads of sunbeds. The restaurants are good with normal French prices. The shop was very well stocked.
We walked to Vieux Boucau (less than 10 mins)and went to the market, and we walked on the beach which is lovely but no swimming at the Vieux Port end although part of the beach does have lifeguards. You just have to go over the dunes to reach the sea but it's not far.
We spent ages finding our favourite pitch for August and easily booked it. We have their price from 24th to 29th inclusive and Camping Cheques from 30th onwards - again no problems, everyone is very helpful. We liked the site very much and are prepared to put up with the August noise to have the family holiday - we're sure they'll love it.
Previously we've all been to La Rive, Bonne Anse Plage (I think that's chalets only now!) and others but not in that area.
