Hi, never used a French hotel for an overnight stop. I would really appreciate an overview of the different chains of hotels pls. (having read the trailer weight thread am now considering breaking our journey in France rather than the UK if I can change the Chunnel booking.) We are a family of 4 - kids 6 and 9, we usually stay in Premier Inns in the Uk. we have a trailer tent so good parking is important. We would want an evening meal and breakfast the following morning. For this trip I'd be looking for hotels approx 2hrs from Calais towards the Vendee but general info would also be useful for future trips elsewhere.
------------- From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!

There are plenty of budget type chains,we tend to use Etap but I think they only do rooms for 3,there also Premeire classe,F1 & Kyraid which are all good value and always tend to be close to the main motorways
We have also used independent hotels when we have travelled with our friends who have 3 kids And never had a problem, always using a hotel search site like booking.com as that will bring up almost every hotel in the town you want
For this trip I think Rouen sounds like you best bet

we have used the Premiere Classe at least 5 times...nothing flash but clean and comfy...we use them when we go to Disney..

Im sure I wont be alone in this (and I'll probably get a 'row' from others) but when our kids were as young as yours we got a 3 bed room and they top n tailed. Yes, I know that its probably wrong but its simply due to money - not fire issues as no one clocks you in and out and wouldn't know if you were in the hotel or not. Could selfishly never see the point in paying double arriving at midnight when only going to be there for 5/6 hours. Yes - there are a few chains which will have 4 beds but it depends if your planning ahead and know where you will be and when. We never used to book any sites so didn't know where we needed to book a room en route in advance. Put chain hotels in France into google and that will give you a list.
Have fun whatever you do.

Another vote for "Premiere Classe" for around £30 they tick all the box's for us, secure gated cctv parking, and 15% of your entire evening meal including drinks at the adjacent "Campanile" hotel restaraunt.
Montelimar, about 50 yards from the autoroute exit, nice after a long days drive.
Premiere Classe are good but again they are only for 3 persons so would mean top n tailing. Yes, they are very good value for money and a lot nicer than F1 hotels which don't have en-suite and are about the same cost.
we had 2 rooms....girls in one and stinky boys in the other.....it was lovely to have girlie nights (chocolate and more chocolate)....but while we were there a family with little kids came and was told that even though the rooms were for 3 people, if they brought sleeping bags or inflatable mattress than they would allow the kids to sleep on floor....

we have always used Premiere Classe, got 2 rooms (each way) for an amazing price (£36 for both). We only have 1 child who comes with us but if we did fetch the other I would fetch an airbed and sleeping bag and put them on floor as there is room

May 13 - Cala Gogo, St Cyprien (didn't go, hubby too ill to travel)
May 14 Ranc Davaine
August 14 Les Sablons
August 13 - Camping Playa Brava, Pals
Another vote for Hotel B&B. I've said this before but but might be useful for you, that you'll have to park your trailer in a separate bay usually so get everyone out, park your trailer and get the wheelclamp on the passenger side. Then reverse the car in as tight as you can against it so that it's impossible to get down the side to remove the wheel clamp.
We also have a trailer tent and are stopping over at the B&B at Limoges enroute to Bayonne and the B&B at Orleans on the way home. I have family rooms booked which are ~90 Euro each.
