Hi
I'm having a nightmare of a time booking the tunnel to France and also breakdown insurance as our recently acquired second hand motorhome has been upgraded to 3800kg and on reading the small print the tunnel won't accept greater than 3500kg and lots of breakdown insurers wont either. Any advice? I've already booked the campsites! Surely lots of larger motorhomes regularly use the tunnel?

3800kgs is a very odd weight for a vehicle to be plated to.
Phone Eurotunnel just tell them its a motorhome measuring whatever length, unless its LPG then dont bother because they won't take you.
Dont mention the weight. Or just say its 3500kgs.
As a matter of interest what max weight is on the logbook??
I think you'll find that the 3500kg weight limit is for commercial vans using the passenger service. All other commercial vans have to use the freight service.
Large coaches use the passenger service so you'll have no problem with a motorhome. I have seen a motorhome the size of a coach in the passenger service.

We've used it numerous times, our current van is a Rapido 9066df plated at 3850kgs (the maximum for the Fiat 3 litre on the Alko chassis) Our previous van was an Adria Izola also plated at 3850 kgs. They are all classed as a camper, we use Tesco vouchers where you get 3 times the value. Our next crossing in August was £45 in Tesco vouchers + £1 (£45x3 = £135 + £1) £68 each way.
Breakdown insurance we use ADAC the German breakdown service which will cover almost any van (I think up to 7.5 ton & any age) Saga breakdown also covered our previous van.
