I plan to visit Lyon,France,next year and would welcome any personally experienced recommendations based on the following criteria;
Car and 2 berth caravan,
Travelling low season May,June and 1st half of July'14,
Quality camping cheque,Acsi or very good municipal site,
Easy access from campsite to bus or train to city centre,
Site must be north of Lyon ,
No more than one hour on public transport,
We are pensioners so any transport reduced prices?
Any thoughts on where to go and where to visit,
Plan is to stay about two weeks weather permitting!
We are experienced travellers in France.
Many thanks in advance,
Colin

Why Lyon? Do you have a particular reason for wanting to visit the city and stay there for two weeks. Whilst it's a lovely city for a short visit - two nights probably - I'm not sure that we.d find enough to keep us going for two weeks. Additionally traffic is heavy in that area - commuter traffic going into the city, and tourist traffic going around it.
There are some nearby sites, but we've only ever stayed for one night, preferring more rural France for our main holiday, and we've never tried public transport in the area - though I know they do offer those free to borrow bikes in the city centre. Camping Indigo International de Lyon is to the north of the city, and accessible on public transport - tram and bus. Lots of super restaurants in Lyon, great parks, and nice shoping street, but to be honest that's all we did when we were there.
BUT we never make our minds up before we go, and we always holiday in May/June and just go where we please, when we please, which is one of the advantages of using smaller sites, or Camping Cheques or ACSI sites.

Just returned from 8 weeks various sites between St Tropez and Cannes.
Sounds awesome. Can you leave some site reviews for all to read when you get a few spare minutes please

There's a municipal at Villefranche-sur-Saone, "La Plage" located by the river (about 1 mile from the station)- train to Lyon takes about 20/25 minutes.
Lyon is worth visiting for a day or two but not really much more in my opinion.

As had been said, nice city, but not worth a two week stay. Why not combine a few days around Lyon, with some time in the Drome, or the Ardeche areas - both nearby, so not a vast distance to travel between - or even both areas.

We spent three nights at St Genis Laval a SE suburb of Lyon with excvellent bus transport into the city centre. Thre's quite a loty to occupy you in Lyon but, like others, I wouldn't want/need to spend more than a week there although it's a good place to explore the local Rhone-Saone (Roman ruins at Vienne &c). We combined that stay with a week at St Geneste in the Pilat within easy reach of the St Etienne conurbation (interesting museums and galleries) and great countryside.

We used the north Lyon campsite at Dardilly http://www.camping-indigo.com/fr/camping-indigo-lyon-rhone.html and it was really very good. There's a bus-stop within a minute or two's walk from the site that takes you the metro station and then you take the train into the centre of the city. And all for 1euro or thereabouts!
We enjoyed Lyon but I wouldn't want to be there for more than 3 or 4 days. We saw everything we wanted in two!
