We are camping closer to St Tropez, however I've heard eat out in St Tropez is unrealy expensive. A friend has recommended drifting towards Cavalaire-sur-Mer for cheaper eateries and supermarket and just a general cheaper experince i.e shops and beach parking??

Has anyone any other trip for cheaper locations???

Yes, it's certainly cheaper than St Tropez, but not as cheap as the Western Med.  However, as usual, even in St Tropez you'll find cheaper places to eat if you go up and away from the harbour area in the back streets, or just take a picnic and climb up to the Citadelle and sit in the park overlooking the bay, kidding yourself that one of the mega-yachts is yours!  It's a superb viewpoint from up there.   If you get a detailed map of the area, you can avoid a lot of the traffic and sneak into St Tropez the back way, using the routes through the vineyards, and you may still find free parking right up at the top of town, but you'll not if you come in the normal way along the harbour where you're almost funnelled into very expensive car parks.

In Cavalaire, if it's still there, then Rotisseurs de la Cote (up one of the side streets, off the main road in from the route you'll come in on)  used to be cheap - lovely kebabs of chicken, pork, beef, or turkey, served simply with chips and salad, but huge portions.   Actually I've just looked it up on the internet and it's moved into the centre of town.  There is also a Creperie which used to be good, and some of the beach restaurants towards the La Croix Valmer end aren't bad value. There are plenty of places to choose from though - but I don't think you'll find much free parking in that area.  In La Croix Valmer the PMU (local bar/bookmakers/sports TV) used to do excellent workmen's lunches, and in St Raphael you may find cheaper eating around the harbour area.

There are no huge supermarkets there, as far as I know.  We used to go to the one at the large roundabout.  There is a smallish Carrefour which is probably the largest you'll find in Cavalaire itself.

We have friends down there, and I lived there for two months a long time ago, and we've been back many times to see them, though not in the last four years.
