Absolutely spot on. Hotel F1 and the like are functional soulless places that are perfect for overnight stops, but as they are generally situated on industrial estates, not where one would want to spend a holiday.
Comparing them with campsites, is like comparing them to five star hotels, is not the same thing at all.
£20 a night including hook up is pretty reasonable for a campsite. Obviously out of season, things are cheaper, the less facilities onsite, things are cheaper.
Top of the range park, high season and chuck a few kids into the mix and you are looking at £50 and upwards a night. But then, compared to a top of the range hotel with similar facilities, £50 a night for a family of 4 or 5 is cheap as chips.

Just to add some figures to my original mention of the ACSI Card, there are the following sites in Europe which charge just 12 euros per night for two adults, pitch for a tent or caravan, awning, and electricity:
The following are 14 euros:
And the following are 16 euros:
So in Germany there are 256 ACSi sites which are available at less than £14.00 per night and some of those sites accept the ACSI Card all season!
