We left SP day after the storm, but not until 4pm as had to let tent dry out. We had a riverside pitch and this was our 5th year at this site. I love SP and thinks it's one of the best sites we've been too.
However, and i'm sorry to say this bearing in mind it's 5 star as well, this is the first time we felt the toilet and wash facilities were not kept as clean as previous years, the pitch was not as well kept as normal as someone has said there was no grass to be seen on our pitch at all and could have done with some bark or single for drainage. Maybe it's us be we felt many of the campers were not as friendly as prevoius years and i also think it's maybe time for a change. By the way la paradis is a better kept site in this region, but just not as centraol as SP.

sorry we did not like SP when we were there it was a damp soggy mess ok it was may the river was about a foot below the road as you come in . we should have been there three weeks but after two we pull off site and headed up north to Gien we will not be going that way again very disappointed with the Dordogne area altogether and we were so much looking forward to it. malc
I remember Val saying she drove past in May one year too. There is a lot of melting snow in the Massif central that has to go somewhere and the Dordogne is one of the ways it takes. I think Val's words to describe the river were 'like the Orinoco'.
Yes, that's right Huw - boiling brown river, with tree trunks floating down. That was the year we decided NOT to canoe on the Dordogne, but to carry on south to find some decent weather. The river levels anywhere in France can fluctuate by a huge amount in heavy rain - and unfortunately, beautiful as they are in good weather, riverside campsites can suffer the ill-effects.
We've been in the Ardeche and seen the river rise by nine feet in as many minutes - and from being a lovely friendly river full of toddlers paddling it became yet another boiling brown turbulent and frightening torrent!
Having said that we've just left the Dordogne region, and the river was absolutely beautiful!

I bet it was spectacular - and warmer than the Med too I'd bet.
I think ancient man knew a thing or two about where the living was best - no surprise to me that there are so many signs they were all over the Dordogne/Vezere.
