Fab pics! weve just come back from this area and it was fab. It was a lot hotter than last year, our first two weeks were boiling hot. Love France and im planning next years now, it keeps me going in all this rain and awful weather here.
We are trying a different area next year, weve done 3 years in the Dordogne now so time for a change.

I haven't even put my pics on pc yet.

Would love to see your pics. Our main photos were off the big camera but I did a few on the phone, uploaded and posted, no PC involved.

This was our first visit to the area, and it won't be our last. Plenty more to do and see.

I see on your other post we're both pondering crossing options for next year. I'm thinking hard about Brittany Ferries Club Voyage membership thing.

Lovely post and pics Mike. We got back from this area v late on Sunday night. We stayed at Moulin de Pauliac in Daglan. A lovely smallish family site with extremely helpful owners. There is a lovely little river running through it which you can swim in. We'd looked into Le Capeyrou before going and would have probably booked it had there been a little shop actually on the site - I know it seems a small thing but our 10 and 7 year olds love going for the baguette in the morning and I'm not sure I would have been happy for them to cross the road to the shop in Beynac. There's no denying it is in a lovely location, having driven past it a couple of times while we were there.
Weather was amazing including the most fantastic 3 hours of thunder and lightening in our second week. There is so much to do in that region, you could never be bored.
Hiring a fridge is great and a must for me - I'm not great at basics camping, but love being under canvas. We also hire our roofbox every year because we just wouldn't get the use out of one through the rest of the year and don't have anywhere at home to store it.
We live about 40 minutes from Portsmouth but haven't used that crossing for the last couple of years, but I'm glad you seemed to enjoy the historic dockyard - I think its one of the better value attractions the UK has to offer.
Anyway, back to thinking about next year's holiday...

Thanks NTT.

Completely understand about the road and little ones.

We'd just us, and grown up DD for a week, and actually thought that although the site didn't have a shop, it was the best catered for of any site we'd visited, UK or France.

Right opposite, good general store for milk etc, a great boucherie/charcuterie, and a fantastic boulangerie/patisserie. And a take away gaff round the back.

We'd go for the ablutions then get the days provisions. Brilliant. It might as well have been the site's own, where it is. I'd bet 90% of customers would be Capeyrou campers.

Very impressed with the historic dockyard. We'd actually only booked for the Mary Rose, as we'd to drive back home, but we were in that little caff looking wistfully at Warrior whilst we waited for our slot, and a kindly dear on the desk let us go through gratis!

Loved it. We could have spent the day there, easily

Just to to draw a line under this one, as all the debits are in.

If of interest, costs were:

Ferry P>St Malo outside cabin, return Cherb>P £612
Petrol for round trip 2000 miles £386
Tolls est (pd cash and didn't keep chittys) £120
Site 2 adults x13 nights +1 x7 nights 10amp water drainage £443
2 overnights Campanile Tours and Premier Inn Soton total £180

Grand total £1741

Eating in/out and entertainment would be extra, but we'd have had that anyway.

I'm sure we could have done it cheaper, and if we'd tried, we could equally have spent more. It is what it is, a great holiday.

As things stand we'll go again next year but will look at other options for the return ferry. Cherbourg is awful, as is the crossing.

Roll on 2014.

Hi K

The fridge will have a french plug so you'll need a travel adapter to get it to a UK 3 pin plug then plug that in your EHU.

EHU needs to be a proper, safe, camping unit like this ,perhaps with a converter like this in case the site still has old style 2 pin outlets. Many sites these days have UK style outlets so it's "just in case".

If it's Camping Le Capeyrou you're going to, we didn't need ours last year, but it'll be in the box anyway.

You'd usually want the fridge on all the time, so dependant on the supply on the pitch, you'll want to watch whatever else you're plugging in at the same time.

If this is all new to you, this UKCS page on EHU is worth a read.

If you're an old hand, apologies for stating the obvious!

Have a great time.

You need your own proper camping electric hook up unit, like the one I linked. The unit itself stays in your tent, the cable goes out and the blue end connects to the supply post on the pitch. Capeyrou supply 6a or 10a. Your own devices (and the fridge) then plug into the unit in your tent.

Our EHU is a triangular shaped unit, you can see it here on the corner of the "sideboard":

The adaptor is only needed if the supply post is an old style french 2 pin outlet job - last year we didn't need it. For what they cost, an adaptor is always worth having if you intend to go frequently to France, but will be needed increasingly less.

AFAIR Capeyrou do not do bike hire themselves, but I'm sure reception will be able to tell you where the nearest hire place is, or they may even have an arrangement where bikes etc are brought to the site. Last year we booked a canoe on the river and reception organised it all.

Oh, sorry, other tips. Check your pitch on arrival. You don't want to be facing south without shade if it's as hot as last year.
