Hi, off on friday down to dover then early ferry to Calais. We are then heading for la palmyre, with stopover halfway . I've looked at viamichelin and its giving three options and I'm just wandering which is best . It can be a mix of tolls and n roads. Any advice ? Thanks

We have always gone a28 route from Caen but we are also going calais to oleron so will be taking A16/A10 route because its same mileage but cheaper on toll.

It probably shows 1 via Paris, 2 via Rouen & Orleans 3 via Le Mans

personally I would avoid route 1, Paris is chaotic. Of the other two I think if you don't mind paying tolls then route 3 Le Mans would be my favourite. If going this route there is a very popular municipal site at Beaumont sur Sarthe just before Le Mans which is just short of half way.

Via Le Mans - depending how far you get overnight at Beaumont sur Sarthe (N of Le Mans) or Azay le Rideau (near Tours).

Hi,

We stayed at the municiple at Beumont Sur Sarthe on our way home last week. We didin't book but enjoyed a large riverside pitch with electric which only cost €23 for 5 people.

The showers were excellent and visitors were a mix of french but mostly english and dutch overnighters.

We were there on a beautifull day but I could easily spend a few days there.

it is worth noting that twin axel caravans are not permitted .

Guy.

....By the way there are currently roadworks which have closed the motorway at Rouen, the diversion takes you via Rouen centre and adds about half an hour to the journey - There are a couple of tight turns and narrow streets and we saw a caravan blindly follow their satnav towards a very low underpass- thankfully there was an escape route but it was very close.

It should be pretty easy to avoid with a bit of advanced planning with with via michelin.

Is this the long term closure of the Pont Mathilde or is there something else as well now?

The bridge closure and routes has been discussed a number of times this year :-)

We're going calais-arcachon-Toulouse-Sarlat- Calais next week. Its our 1st time with a caravan: was shocked at the extra cost on tolls compared to my medium van!
trying to decide weather to take the toll to Rouen and then non-toll down to Arcachon. Any suggestions on wether I should take the les mans, tours or Orleans route...?

Appreciate any of your experiences
