English Fish & Chip vans are common in ex-pat areas, normally one night per week in local villages and you use the local pub to eat them in with a small beer. Quite expensive though.

We saw a few on our travels this year, and stopped at one for lunch. The portions were massive, and there was a queue to be served, so well used. But for the life of me can't remember where it was.

Used an old style pizza van a couple of times in the south of France.
Funny story. We stopped and ordered. Took around 30 minutes. About a week later we fancy pizzas again so H drops me off while she nips back to the villa for the loo, to then come back and pick me up.
Temps in high 30's. I go up to the van and ask Mrs Pizza Lady pour un jambon et champignon, s'il vous plait, expecting a 30 minute wait.
Voila, she says, and hands one one. OK. I set off walking up the hill, high 30's remember, carrying this red hot pizza box.
20 minutes later I'm sweating like a b*tch and see H driving down. She's expecting me further back and sails right past in air conditioned comfort, doesn't even see me. I scream and half a klick later she turns round and pulls up.
I try and open the door and nearly break my fingers as she's left the f#';+_)*&^%! locking on.
Well. About 10 minutes later we're finally eating and DD says "we're all being very quiet".
Took the day after for me to recover sufficiently to regain the power of speech.
Not sure what this adds to our understanding of the mysteries of the universe, but there you go.

Theres a beauty on the road between Argenton and La Chatre in Creuse. Excellent food of the sausage/ steak hache variety and also rows of padded sun loungers and sun brollies for lorry drivers to have 40 winks after their lunch!!!!!
Have'nt been to one in the last 8 yrs. But the last time I used one was south of Nantes can't remember exactly where but on the menu was Burger and Frites that's what I ordered. after 10 mins young lady gave me my food which looked great, sat down took a nice big bite of my burger and found that it was totally raw inside fairly well done out :( now I don't mind a little blood with my Beef and Lamb but for it to run out like red sause was not what I was expecting :), the fella cooking did have a laugh and then cooked it through for me :) so ended very nicely :).
But again don't see them hardly at all now on the side of roads. I still love going to local markets in France and trying food from some of the vans at these events some excellent food, as good as any restaurant in some cases.
