Going away this Thursday (Vendee region) and have been trying to contact Adac today in order to arrange breakdown cover.

Tried calling a couple of numbers found here from other posts(Germany 00 49 94 15 23 44 and 00 49 941 556 73) and a number I found on the english page of their website.

No answer from either, except recorded messages given in german.

I've sent an email to an address found on a google search but not heard yet.

Anybody got any ideas of how to get this sorted before Thursday?

Thanks

PS. I realise I've left it way too late...

I would go with one of the British companies that you can get hold of.  ADAC is cheap if it replaces your home breakdown as well, but if you just want it for holiday cover then you can get cheaper elsewhere for two or three weeks.  You can then arrange ADAC cover if you require it, when you get home again.

We don't have breakdown cover in the uk either. It's just one of those jobs that we've not got round to, plus, until now, we've driven young cars that are generally very reliable. However, our larger family car is beginning to age ('07) and I would like some piece of mind here and abroad.

Ah - somewhere on here there are lots of other threads about ADAC - have a search and you may find alternative phone numbers, but I must admit when we've phoned we've had a reply straight away.

OK thanks Val. Maybe just a bad day - I did wonder whether it was a bank holiday of some sort over there.

I'll try again tomorrow. LIke you say, if I don't have any luck by Thursday then I'll just be doing what I always have and getting something cheap'n cheerful just for the 10 day trip.

If you get an answering machine, you can leave a message in English as several people in the office speak perfect English.

ValA,

On your recommendation I went with ADAC last year. I bought a new(ish) car earlier this year and the plan for our hols to France at the end of August was to take this car and camp, as I had a year's breakdown cover as part of the deal. Plans have changed and we are now taking the caravan towing with the Defender so need to sort out breakdown cover (we only have UK cover for the Defender). I don't need to go with ADAC as I only need the cover for three weeks of the hol but when i checked out RAC etc they were charging more for this period than ADAC were for the year. In your post above you said there were companies that will do breakdown cover for less than ADAC; can you let me know which ones they are?

thanks

Dave - I've just paid £26 for 10 days breakdown cover with Co-operative (Axa) which I felt was reasonable.

I don't know how that compares with ADAC.

Just to confirm: if I don't manage to arrange cover with adac then the Co-op will be who I go with. As Siane says, cover is actually provided by Axa Assistance and prices are very reasonable. Although I've used them quite a few times before, I've never needed to call for assistance so can't report on how good the service is.

Hi, it will work out at around £42 for my trip which is reasonable although I cannot find out any info as to whether it covers your caravan too when towing.

ADAC will cover your caravan too, in their Partner Plus policy.
