Hello Everyone,
We've just arrived in Annecy for a weeks stop on our three week France trip.
It's very busy in and around the Lake. We are stopping at Lac du Solitaire.
I would like to ask if anyone has any recommendations, must do's etc. There seems a lot to do, up to now I fancy hiring bikes and cycling by the side of the lake, would also like to do a bit of fishing and would like to spend a day or two at one of the lakeside beaches (any recommendations for good beach?).
Any info would be appreciated. Oh we are a group of three, my wife and I and our 14 year old (slightly sulking son).

Good beach at Tallories, eastern side of the lake, probably more quiet.
You can drive up the east side of the mountain overlooking the lake to where the hang gliders launch. Good views and a good place to kick your son off the top. He may be interested in a tandem jump.
If you go down to Doussard to camping Lac Bleu there is a nice beach with watersports and probably a few british teenagers your son could hang out with. Cycling is a must and like Harry B says the drive up the mountain is good. J x
Thanks Harry and Julie, we'll be getting up early to try out the beach at dousard and the drive up the mountain. I will be trying a parapente later in the week. I tried it once in Millau over the Tarn and loved it! I cant wait to see the views over the lake. It's a once ina lifetime thing! I tried to talk my son into taking the jump but he's not going to try it, must be too cool! Still, he's warmed to the idea of a bike ride to Dousard and back, since I mentioned the suggestion of throwing him off the mountain

Catch the river taxi into Annency, the trip there and back should mean you get to see all the resorts around the lake as it goes up one side and back down the other on ther return journey. Annency itself is amazing lots of little alleys to explore, while we were there we saw a coupld of people go past on segways....which did look very cool......surely that could cheer up a slighlty sulking 14 year old!

Thanks for the extra info guys, plenty of good suggestions there. The weathers great at the moment, nice and sunny around 28 deg. There's a bit of a northely breeze at the kake side keeping it cooler especially on the NW facing shores, but very warm where its sheltered. The views are stunning and it's nt too cold at night, just cooler, no problem if you have a fleece or cardi, or you've a 14 year old then a hoody will be ideal.

Sevrier sports great for bike hire! Nice guy speaks English as he is South African! We liked le petit fringale in duignt because it was reasonably priced, relaxed but toilets were shower tray types round the back! Hope it's warmer for you than the spring when we were there. Enjoy! X

We stayed for 2 weeks at Cmpg Lac Bleu, Doussard in mid/late August 2009. You may be interested in my account and illustrative photos. If you want to see them google "Tim Irwin caravan" and look in "Holiday Journals" French Alps Part 3.
We are currently enjoying the sun and the fantastic veiws from le lac bleu. Just googled the gorge du fier and it looks worth a visit. Going to hire a pedalo soon for a lazy time on the lake, well I will as long as I can persuade the kids to do the pedalling!
