We've just returned from 11 days in France - with our young Tibetan Terrier.

Last year, we used a vet in the town of Ardres, nr Calais, for the required Pet Passport validation & tapeworm treatment. This vet is very popular with UK dog owners, as they used to have an open clinic on weekdays, between 2-3pm no appointment required.

However, it has all changed. Firstly, they have moved to a shiny new, purpose built clinic about a mile away! Secondly, they now require everyone to make a pre-arranged appointment.

It was a bit of a nasty shock when we found that the old address was up for sale, with no details of the move shown on the door!   Luckily, a French passer by kindly described to us where they had gone. We found the new premises but were told we couldn't be seen that day, Luckily, we still had time to make an appointment for the following day - and to comply with the passport requirements that we had to allow 24 hours between the treatment and before our return journey.

The new address for Clinique Veterinaire du Camp du Drap d'or is now:
50 Impasse Bourgelat
Z.A. Des Moulins D943
62610 Autingues

Veto.ardres at wanadoo.fr
Tel. 03.21.35.40.03

- They are just along the Rue International, turn right when you get to Aldi and a Peugeot dealership.

I'm sure lots of people will be caught out and will turn up with barely 24 hours to go to their travel slot. They will not know where the vet is and even if they find it, it will be difficult to be seen without an appointment. I witnessed a lady with 3 dogs, pleading with them to be seen on spec - with only 2 hours remaining to her 24 hour deadline! It was all very stressful. They did eventually agree to see her, but I wouldn't recommend doing it that way!

Thanks for the heads up, we aren't going to Europe this year. However we had just suggested some friends use it as they are about to embark on their first Euro adventure. I have sent them your info and I am sure it will be much appreciated. I wonder how much of the new premises have been paid for by UK Euro's? We have always had first class treatment by them and though they aren't the cheapest will continue to use them next year when we hope to have 2 European breaks.

It was a post from five years ago. Things may have changed again in the meantime.

I thought it was odd! We used them some 3 or 4 years ago and they were at that address then. I hadn't noticed that it was an old post. Duh!

Thank good for the 5 day window we have nowadays, things are a lot less stressful. My opinion is it should be scrapped all together, as long as the dog has an up to date rabies vaccine whats the problem. Got no problem with the passport system it is the visit to the vets for a worming tablet.
The vet we use has 2 prices a cash price and a pay with plastic price, leave you to work out the cheapest.
