Just in case anyone is interested the LD LInes/DFDS 2014 bookings are now open at http://ldlines.co.uk/.

We've just booked for Portsmouth to Le Havre next June as we like to book early to ensure that we get a cabin.

Price, with a camper van (<6m x 3.2m), 2 persons and cabin, one way £165.15. We saved about £20 by going through the C&CC, if that helps anyone. We are planning a longish trip so will sort out the return later.

thanks very much for your post. I did look the other day and it was coming up with all the dates but then saying sailings were full. I did suspect it was because they hadn't released the prices.

Pricing up around £70 for Dover to Calais. How long does the price hold for?

Ignore price did not have the caravan added. Priced up at £130 as per a couple of weeks ago.

As all the ferry companies use dynamic pricing (price rises with demand etc) I have no idea how long this will remain the going price.

The cost without a cabin was £112 as I recall, so it's a question of what the extra is worth to the individual in terms of convenience and fuel etc savings, but there have already been many discussions on this on here in the past. We use the more western crossings because we live in the South West and prefer them.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday pricing up two trips Pompey - Le Havre. A bit messy as I'm going over with the van early/mid June, leaving the van in Garage Mort somewhere and returning with just the car. Doing the opposite a couple of weeks later. Comparing like with like, prices are almost identical to the same trip(s) last year (2012), in spite of the fact that I had booked 'sleeper seats' but got upgraded to cabins FOC on both crossings when they changed the boat last year.

Some quirky bits there though - Ideally we would have gone back over on 2nd July, but current prices for car+2 on July 1st is £90, same deal on July 2nd is £145. It's only for the rest of that week, and there is no corresponding hike on the return journey. So what is happening in LBF on 2 July??

Whatever - good news that the prices have not risen in 2 years.

Incidentally - I'm with chrisandsandra above(in fact I live only 10-15 miles from them) I prefer the western crossing(s) as dragging the van an additional 280 miles on each journey is a no-brainer.

It still seems to me, based on recent prices at different times, that booking early for both Brittany and LD Lines gets the best deals.

Hello newbie here - I'm also interested in Portsmouth-LeHarve but I was thinking it would be best to wait for any discount codes from the NEC show? What would be best for me to do, do you think? I really don't think Dover-Calais will work for us (due to small kids so want to keep mileage down to keep the peace) and I'll only be able to travel during school hols.
I'd be grateful for any advice on this route!

Pretty sure there are no discount codes on that route, only Dover-Dunkerque.

There was a special offer last February on the Condor Portsmouth to Cherbourg route (Sundays only) - caravans and motorhomes went for £200 return. This was for all sailings so far as I know, though only available to book for a very short time. I don't know if it will be repeated.

We took advantage of it and both legs of the journey were almost exclusively taken up by caravans and motorhomes, so it must have been popular!

+100. Last two years, we've used BF, with a o/n cabin out and a fast evening crossing back. Never again. This year's Cherbourg return was horrendous with kids running riot.

For 2014 we've got o/n cabins both ways and by going midweek, we've avoided hotel overnights and halved the cost

Just booked LD for first trip mid June. 2 cars, 2 vans (outbound only), 4 people, cabin out - £515. Almost identical booking with Brittany Pirates (without any CCC or other discounts) - £801.

£286 difference!! - no contest!!
