Hi,We have camped once before in Spain, Playa Joyel (noja) and really enjoyed it. We did the Portsmouth - Santander crossing. Can anyone recommend a similar site but maybe a few hours further? We dont mind driving a little while but not for long periods of time. Any recommendations greatly recieved.
Thanks
H

There are few, if any, sites along the Atlantic coast with facilities like Playa Joyel.  If you travel west, through Cantabria and into Asturias, there are some wonderful beaches and small resorts but the campsites tend to be fairly small-scale with maybe a swimming pool and restaurant but not much else.  I think the same applies if you go east towards San Sebastian.

You may need to head for the Costa Brava, but that would require an overnight stop.  There are several good sites on the Bay of Roses with lots going on and access to a lovely beach.  We've stayed at L'Amfora, which is very good, but other sites also get good reviews - Aquarius, Las Dunas and Balena Allegra come to mind.

I really recommend the Bay of Roses. Lovely beach, very uncrowded and warm sea, gently shelving, so ideal for kids. Lots to do and see in the local area. Fantastic campsites most with direct access to the beach

Aquarius - nicest site by far, clean, well maintained, very attractive, lots of shade, however, no pool is an issue for some. Few British campers, most pitches booked more than 12 months in advance

L'Amfora - Big site with lots of facilities, however, there is a public car park between site and the beach. Site feels a little sterile - lots of entertainment, although some is poor quality

Las Dunas - massive site, with more than 2500 pitches it is more of a town than a campsite, however, it is very well organised and has lots to do and plenty to entertain kids and parents. Good facilities, the only access to the beach is through the site. Very popular with British campers

Nautic Almata - big site, and a favourite with sailors, boat owners and people who enjoy fishing - has its own marina. Nice pool complex and many pitches with lots of shade. When we were there, some of the facilities were getting tired, but may have been replaced since

Little further south on the costa brava, although agree Rosas is nice would be ones like el delfin verde,an all singing all dancing site with good nightly entertainment or further south still theres the scenic quiter camping treumal along that lovely bit of coastline south of Palamos.

It may be worth looking at the Brittany Ferries website, look under the holidays, spain, chalet camping section. Not that you want to books a holiday with them but you can then go to the campsite website.
