We are planning to spend the May half term week in France next year. We are taking the dog with us for his first trip abroad so don't want to travel too far into France.

I, as usual, am tasked with the arrangements and a scratching my head a bit. OH is a history fan and would enjoy any war museums, monuments and the landing beaches. I am interested too but to a lesser extent. DD will be with us and isn't the slightest bit interested.

Of the places I have looked at so far, La Briqueriee at Honfleur is coming out on top. It is a 5* site with indoor swimming pool to keep DD entertained while OH goes off exploring the area.

What I want to know is, are we close enough to the areas of interest for OH and will we be able to let the dog off the lead on the beaches?

If anyone has any other suggestions for us I am all ears.

Personally I would say that Hornfleur, is a bit to far to the DD Museums and beaches. We have been twice and for us the best area to be based is around Bayeaux.

We stayed here and paid with Tesco vouchers

We went to Cote de Nacre at St Aubin sur Mer last Easter. Take a look - it may fit the bill, but you don't say how old your daughter is. We did Bayeaux, landing beaches, museums and more!
Colleville American Cemetery is a must - opening scenes of Private Ryan were filmed there. It is amazing! There is a small boating club and cafe next door on the beach which I can recommend too!
Arromanches is another must do - Mulberry Harbour.

Good luck and enjoy!

Ruth

We stayed at Le Picard in order to visit that area. Very well placed and lovely site.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Our DD is just 11 so not particularly interested in the history although we do try to involve her. To be honest she will be happy on site with a swimming pool and having some walks on the beaches.

I will reconsider Honfleur and have a look at the other recommendations.
