Unless the skin on your buttocks and the back of your legs is actually broken, then you are unlikely to catch anything very much by sitting down on a toilet seat. However 'hovvering' over the seat and therefore not emptying your bladder properly is quite likely to lead to a urine infection.
I agree wholeheartedly with what you say about hand hygiene though.
