I met a French lady on the beach at Sete today and she asked if I had been to Rocher du something or other, she says it is a lovely place to visit with a volcanic black sand beach, deep water where you can see the fish and its near Agde, can anyone give me any ideas as I have scoured the map I have and as its our last day tomorrow would like to find this place. thanks, J x

just googled and found this... bit short on time to look deeper but hope it helps...
'The volcanic cliffs of Le Cap d'Agde and the cove of "La grande conque" with its black sand beach are the results of a series of submarine volcanic eruptions that occurred about 750,000 years ago, at the southern extremity of the Auvergne volcanic chain.
The sea eroded rock plunges it claws into the depths of the sea, which the sun transmutes into an infinite range of blue. The volcanic eruptions can still be seen in the varieties of rocks : solidified lava flows, yellow tuffs in regular layers, quartz, clay... The peak of the cliff (21 m) offers an open view on the "rocher des 2 Frères", the black sand beach, the Richelieu jetty and the Brescou Fort.'
Thanks Jukie999 thats it, I thought she said rocher du deffries, but thats it rocher des 2 freres, will have a trip there tomorrow. I knew I could rely on this forum. J xx
Glad it's what you were looking for... maybe you could post after your visit to tell us what it was like ?
Off to Argeles-sur-Mer for second week of hols next year but haven't decided exactly where to go for first week, so would be very interested to hear what you think

Back home now but found this place on our last day. Its just near the marina at Cap D Agde you can walk through the boatyard and up the cliffs, stunning views, basically its a cove with volcanic back sand and deep blue water, the day we were there it was very windy and the only sheltered place for sunbathing, worth a visit, J x
