For regulars at Chateau du Gandspette, you may be interested to know that Mdme Gandspette (Olivier's wife, Laurent) has gone back to teaching after ten years of working there!  She left Gandspette in late July, and when we were there last weekend they had a very nice helpful 'temp' in reception.  He spoke perfect English, and was just as friendly and helpful as the rest of the team.   No other changes though!

For the first time ever we were unable to eat in the restaurant as it was fully booked when we arrived.  Mind you we were later than normal, due to a last minute change of plan.  We had to bring our caravan back for work on the brakes and shock-absorbers which have now done around 60,000 miles!  We added it to our DFDS crossing at the very last minute for just the £10 cost under the show offer, but had to pay a £10 amendment fee as it was outside of the 'free amendments' period.

When you say left do you mean just doing the differnt job rather than left, left? I always found her very nice.

We have been caught out by not getting in the restaurant a couple of times. The usual reason was when I asked as we booked in if we needed to book we told no need on to find later that the restaurant was fully booked. In future would go straight to the bar and reserve.

We have just been at Gandspette and are still bemused as to why the state of the pitches is so dire.
In damp conditions, the hard standings were reserved for motorhomes, the pitches were all sloping and there seemed to be no thought for the people that were there to use their restaurant, their excellent sanitaires or their incredibly high costing wifi.

We had come up from a small family run site that had had chippings laid to most pitches. They had nothing like the throughput of campers that Gandspette has.

Why then did we use them? I had one Camping cheque that needed to be used this year!.

Stuart

One of the reasons I would be a little reluctant to use Gandspette with the motorhome because many of the pitches slope several ways. Not so bad with a caravan. If the breakdown of use is similar to other sites I doubt they have enough motorhome pitches unless they have now got more than those down by the old toilet block.

13 years old.  Two French/European holidays a year = 26 holidays.  Averagine 2500 each holiday.

26 x 2500 = 65,000 - although the last three years it's been stored in France.

When we realised (after OH had looked at the brakes) we thought - take it home, get it done properly!!  We were very lucky and it was booked in for a service  just a week after we brought it back, and all the other jobs (fridge not working on gas, one hob burner not working,  replacement window strut, attention to a squeaking floor in the back corner, new lower trim, damaged reversing light)  will be completed by Friday!  Now that's service for you - thanks to Dickinson's of Bradford.

Mrs Gandspette has gone back to teaching, so left completely!  And yes, I agree with the state of some of the pitches at Gandspette - they need attention, as do the access roads down the middle section in front of the Chateau.  We mentioned it to Olivier this time as we didn't want to chew things up even more (after a wet season).

For anyone with a motorhome, there is a nice little Aire in Watten - just across the roundabout from Gandspette, and left before the canal.  It's alongside the canal, and walking distance to some nice little restaurants - and the church in Watten is definitely worth a look!

The Caravan Club has only a few pitches at Gandspette - you can just book (or turn up) independenty.  There are usually plenty of spare pitches, especially at this time of year.
