Want to stopover in France between Calais and south vendee. Stopped near Le Mans in a beautiful castel site called chateau chanteloup last year. Was great but decided putting tent up for one night was too much so want to try to stay on a site with mobile homes. We are a family of 5 so hotel rooms are challenging, hence the mobile home plan. Any suggestions? Is also husbands birthday so would be great if could spend the day somewhere nice. Thanks for any suggestions!

You may not get a mobile home, in peak season, for just one night, though I did find one through booking com at Les Braudieres

Another suggestion is to look at family run hotels, rather than 'chains'.  There are some lovely ones - something like this one: http://lakehousefrance.com/ - which offers an apartment which sleeps five.  Generally they offer a good breakfast, and often a meal or at least a recommendation for a good local Auberge.  We've found some crackers through booking.com, or through Logis de France - or Chambre d'Hotes from the Gites de France website.

This new idea of " glamping tents" may offer a solution. Castels L Brevedent offer them, no doubt more places will start appearing in France and elsewhere. The tents are really smart, and when thevsite offers a restaurant it may be the answer to one night stands, although a BBQ etc is offered for self catering.

Also have you considered the route via Caen/Rennes/Nantes as cheaper on tolls and not a lot longer? Doesn't answer your query but worth a look on viamichelin site as the savings may pay towards a hotel room!

As far as sleeping 5 maybe try this site
http://www.roomfor5.co.uk/list/166
http://www.roomfor5.co.uk/list/166

This should show hotels who can sleep upto 5 in Pays de Loire

Why not stop for more than one night? We usually stop for three nights when heading south. It gives the driver a chance to chill out and visit points of interest in an area you might miss by overnighting and driving through.
Regards Bob.

That was quick!  I hope you enjoy it and your husband has a lovely birthday!

For the last couple of years we've been going on holiday in early May for my OH's birthday, before picking up our caravan in central France, and we've found some really lovely place to stay through booking.com.  This is where I found Lakehouse.  It's a website I would suggest that anyone tries, particularly those who are looking for something different or with a combination of rooms - as you can select rooms/adults/children in each room.
