We have been going to France and Italy for the last 10 years or so and would like to have taken the caravan to Austria for 2014.
We have been looking at sites near to Innsbruck and Zell am See area but struggling to find a site with serviced pitches that you can actually pre-book.
I found a nice one by the lake in Zell am See but the reviews say that you just turn up and find an available pitch. We want to go in August and no doubt the nicest pitches will already be occupied.
Does anyone know of a good site with good facilities that has pitches that can be booked ahead?
Thanks

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions, we really like the look of Nattersee in Austria for August 2014. Has anyone got any suggestions as to route to take ?
We only live about 1 hour from Dover , so Calais would be ideal.
Also as over 1200 miles is there any suggestions on overnight stops?
Thanks

We took the tunnel at about 11 and stayed overnight in Belgium and the following night in Germany. I did a review of both sites if you click on my reviews.
Hi Sandra and Jaiash
The wife and I would really like to do Nattersee this year, notice Sandra you stopped at just two overnight stops? Seems Nattersee
Is just over 1200 miles from Calais,. When we go to the south of France I find about 400 miles a day stays reasonable as I am the only driver, did you do any of the travelling at night or just cover that distance with two stops?
I May have to
Book an extra day off work as normally when we go to the Sputh of France or Lake Garda it takes about two days towing, Nattersee is about 3 -400 miles further.?
Thanks
Haven't actually been to Austria camping yet but have been considering it. Just wanted to query your mileages as when we have looked at the distance Nattersee comes out at about 670 miles from Calais whichever route we took. Are you mixing miles up for km?

The distance from Calais to Naterersee is circa 660 miles, a little shorter than your trips to the south of France.
We did the trip with two overnight stays with no problem, and that was after driving down from South Yorkshire.
The rough route we took was:-
Calais - Brussels - Luxembourg - Germany ( Saarbrukken - Karlshrue - Stuttgart - Ulm). We then entered Austria via the Fernn Pass or you could decide to stay on the motorway and go via Munich which adds further distance to your route.
We stayed at Park Grubhof which is in Lofer (not too far away from Zelam See)the site is very good and we were able to book a specific pitch. Have a look at it and see what you think.
Thanks for the replies, Mark you mentioned the route you took from Calais, Belgium - Luxembourg - Germany, then entering Austria via Fern Pass.
I have entered details into Michelin Route Planner from Calais and it comes up with the route via Reims into Germany? We need to book some overnight stops having now booked Nattersee in Austria for next summer but cant decide which route is best to take.
I would rather pay tolls for autoroutes for a quicker route where possible.
Thanks
Dave
We would prefer stops at campsites rather than aires, preferably not too far off the autoroute.
