We have just booked a (really cheap!) ferry crossing for 17th April from Dover - Calais and we are planning on driving across to Normandy for a week.  We thought we might stop over in Dieppe for one night before moving onto Bayeaux / Mont St Michel and surrounding area.  If you have any recommendations (or "Stay Away" Froms) can you let me know?  Also, we are going to visit the landing beaches and museums etc so if any one has any comments - i'd be grateful !   We like quiet sites (no kids clubs / discos) where the pace is slow !

Thanks  for your help !

Visited that area a few years ago, loads to see. Mont St Michel is amazing, the Bayeux Tapestry, D-Day Museum, Beaches and the many other exhibitions very interesting.  The immaculate cemeteries with their rows of crosses stretching into the distance are very moving, it really makes you think of the sacrifice so many made.

We stayed near Bayeux, but the site we were on does not open until 1st May this year.

Lots of lovely little fishing villages as well as masses of seaside mansions and apartments. Very crowded when we were there (July) but should be much quieter in April, and easier to park!!

Went to this area last year.

The DDay beaches were great  and be sure to go to the Pegasus Bridge museum. The site we stayed at was for children as well, although not to lively. When you check out the beaches the one thing I found sad was how hyped up and touristy the american beeches were compared to the British/Canadian beeches. ENJOY.

We stayed at Chateau de Martragny which we booked on the CC advance booking service.  They have several sites listed in the area, but according to the brochure this one does not open until 1st may. The other sites they have connections with and what looks like the nearest towns/villages are

Les Goelands ( Dieppe)                              Le Colombier ( Lisieux) 1/05/05

Risle Seine  ( Pont-Audemer)                     Domaine du Lac (Deauville)

Le Brevedent  (Deauville)  1/05/05                 Les Hautes Coutures(Caen)

Le Cormoran ((Ste-Mere-Eglise)                     L'Anse du Brick ((Cherbourg)

Le Grand Large (Barneville-Carteret)              Chateau Lez Eaux (Granville)1/05/05

La Foret( Rouen)

Dates are for those which are not open in April.

If it's open I would try the municipal at St Mere Eglise, it's 3*, quiet at night, and placed very well for all the D-day stuff. Oh and it's not expensive.
