There are plenty of reviews on Zoover - but they are all in Dutch.  It gets an average score of 7.9 - and you can always use Google translate to 'read' the reviews for you.  The English may be a bit strangled but you can always get the main points of a review.

The area is lovely - it's absolutely ages since we were there, but somewhere we've wanted to go back to, to explore in more detail.

We camped in Crest back in August which is about 45 miles from Choranche.
There are some caves in Choranche which are stunning, we only went for the day and it was raining, but the village was pretty and quite busy.
I'm not sure if there's much to do in the surrounding area though, you'll have to do some research.
From Crest we were able to visit places like Vallon Pont d'Arc, Col de Rousett near Die, Montemilar and Choranche itself.
We were only about 120 miles from the Med coast but decided not to go as the temps were about 36 degrees in Crest and a bit hotter near the coast, not good if your wrapped in leather on a motorcycle.

I did a blog of my trip to the area if you want to have a look. My motorcycle trip
If you do go to the area I would highly recommend following the route I did on the last day in the campsite. Simply stunning, especially the first part from Crest, through Bourdeaux and Dieulefit to Nyons.

Our campsite in Crest was great, the only thing missing was was any sort of view.
I did come across this site in Bourdeaux which looks pretty good. Bois de Chatelas

Valkrider:
Please do not keep praising the virtues of Drome Provencal.

If everyone starts going there, then Le Vin des baronnies will skyrocket in price to €1.50 a litre, the campsites on the Eygues become full and the villages like Venterol, Sahune and Remuzat will become touristy.

Some things should be discovered quietly

Sometimes I open my mouth or my fingers start tapping before I engage my brain(small as it is), Stuart is absolutely correct so please disregard my earlier post.

We wouldn't want to start filling up the near empty roads.

Lizzie we stayed at Tournon sur Rhone in Sept this year which is about 60 mins from Choranche.A lovely little site right at the river side, we had plenty to do and see in the local area, a lot of which we didnt have time for. We would highly reccomend this site and will certainly return next year and spend more time. Pics to follow when i remember how

Go on Stuart, spill the beans!  Are there any sites you would recommend?  All we need is a swimming pool/river swimming and shade.  If we can walk or cycle to the nearest village so much the better.

Have a look at SGT's recent reviews for details of sites visited, and good brief reviews.

We love the area and this year have been seriously looking at properties in the Nyons area.

There is Venterol which has a large heated swimming pool and is about 5km to the west of Nyons. It takes Camping Cheques
At 3km to the east is
Aubres
There is no pool but it is right on the river. Unfortunately it is not in ACSI nor Camping Cheques, but a wonderful site.
Nearby there is Camping Le Clos Camping Le Clos
It has a pool but seemed full of statics and chalets

Thanks Stuart.  I will take a look.  Just planning next year - we want to go to Italy but stop somewhere in France on the way back.
