I camped in the CR 2 years ago, we did it on a whim returning from Bavaria - we saw a sign for CZ and thought why not? Stayed for 6 days. A beautiful place. I cant remember the name of the site but it was an ASCI site about 9 miles or less from Ceske Budejovice, Cesky Krumlov and another world heritage village, the name I cant remember beginning with an "h" I think . Cesky Krumlov was like a mini Prague. And the weather at the of August was very hot. Its a place I would definately recommend and would return to.

We visited CZ in 1995; a fascinating experience, and I'd thoroughly recommend the country, too. At the time it was a place in transition.
We stayed on a site in Tabor, at what was evidently a former workers' recreation centre. While on one side there was a swish restaurant, on the other was a canteen run by strapping lasses in white overalls wielding ladles of grey stuff. We eat in the tent, while groups of youths sang to guitars round roaring camp fires by the lake.
Many younger Czechs were learning English; while friendly enough, they tended towards the direct (somewhat like Scots folk?). The British way of saying thankyou every verse end got annoying in restaurants apparently.
The number of heritage sites is breathtaking, so do your research before you go. The beer is legendary, and prices I gather still cheap. Tourists payed more than nationals, but even so the exchange rate makes it a good place to go.

We camped in CR in 2008, staying near Prague (Oase Praha) and then further east, in Bojcovice. Before crossing from Germany into CR we stayed at Lux Oase, Kleinrohrsdorf, near Dresden. It's an excellent campsite, with lots to see and do in the surrounding area - Dresden itself, Colditz, lots of castles, and the amazing Swiss Saxony area with its rock formations. It looks as though Bohemian Switzerland is a continuation of this area, in which case it would be a great place to stay. There's nothing in the Decin area in either the ACSI or Camping Cheques book, but I hope someone can come up with a suggestion. If not, it might be feasible to base yourselves at either Dresden or Prague and make trips from there - not a great distance from either site.

Sorry, I failed to mention I've travelled extensively in the Czech Republic, I just haven't camped there. Budejovice and Krumlov whilst fantastic are much further south than I intend to go. Prague area doesn't tend to be a family holiday it's a mummy and daddy weekend. So really I'm looking specifically around Decin area, I want to take my daughter to pravicka brana (sp?)
