I have always used and found carefree excellent and recommended them highly .
I have just finished booking for next year with them . When asking for prices , I was asked am I booking a ferry or insurance. .so I said I normally take out my insurance at a later date just before we travel. I have already booked my ferry .
I was told if I only wanted to book the site there would be an extra charge of £25 . Why ?
I couldn't believe this and have never had this before .
Is this another c&cc scam. What are they doing .
I did take it but am not happy about it.
Am I missing something. ?

Seems to be yet another "change" along with the controversial fluid pricing of their sites, and certainly not for the better IMHO.
Would you not have been better checking the site prices on-line and making your own booking directly with the site? In a lot of cases, when I've looked through the Carefree brochure, as well as the Continental Touring one from the CC, sites are cheaper if booked direct than through either of the clubs. Just a thought. Also, some of those sites, accept the discount card ACSI or Camping Cheques, which again could be cheaper.

No its not a scam , there has been a £25 surcharge if you don't take a ferry and campsite booking as a package
as long as I can remember .

Agree with N&L. I tried a few years ago just to book a site and was asked the same question, told them no, well that will be £25 extra please.
Don't think so.

As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I booked the rally at La Manga and the £25 was added on, I sent them an e-mail complaining about it but it was a waste of time. As it happens I did book the ferry through them at a later date as it was cheaper than I could do myself so I recovered the £25.
I am not sure why anyone would not want to have insurance once they have booked and paid for their holiday. Surely the insurance is there to protect your payments in case something prevents you from travelling. If that incident happens before you get the insurance you would not be covered. I know when my dad died suddenly a few years back the travel insurance paid out in full covering our cancelled holiday and enabling us to re book at a later time.

Because they may have an annual policy that already covers this booking.

Have to agree waiting until just before travelling to buy insurance is a mistake in my view. Illness, natural disaster, insolvency are all issues covered by insurance between booking and travel. If you have not bought insurance and it happens you won't be covered.
I also have to agree about direct booking sites and crossings. All cheaper outside of the "club".

I haven't bought Carefree cover simply because I already have annual travel insurance with my bank. I will be buying the breakdown cover later but that's a separate issue.
