We tend to go to Brittany,last year we went to Quimper using the Plymouth /Roscoff route, to go Via dover would have cost me nearly £280 in diesel not counting any O/night stops but Plymouth the diesel cost app £68 with no O/night stop, the ferry cost £271.

Moi...J'adore Roscoff!!!! like Berriow said I know its not cheapest but convienient for us ( an hour from Plymouth) and I just love arriving in Roscoff with the gorgeous Ile de Batz and the granite rose coast stretched before us...............ahhhhh!heaven on earth.

I agree and we travel from Ireland and Roscoff is beautiful and the Ile de Batz stunning but my favourite Bretagne island is Ile de Brehat from Paimpol.

Unfortunately in 2014 we have to travel through Wales and England to go to Calais and Belgium and The Netherlands so a lot more driving.

I have recently booked, using £25 deposit for next summer. We will be going Plymouth to Santander, driving up through France and returning from Roscoff. I will ring BF just before I have to pay and join the club and get the discount. Although I would save more by joining the Spanish club I think I will join the French one as I will use it more in the future.

I look at the journey as part of the holiday, so am looking forward to the cruise. I have often done Dover Calais in the past, but it is a long haul from Devon to Dover, especially if we are going to Brittany or the Vendee in France, so have decided to do the long sea journey next year. Less wear and tear on the van, more time on the beach!!

If you join the France one you'll only get 10% off the Spain trip - if you're only using it the once would you not benefit more from joining the Spain Voyage club and getting the 30% off the larger amount and 10% on the France Leg?

Aside from the hard maths, there are subjective differences too. I'm happy to pay good money to avoid the M25, Dover, and more so coming back, the hellhole that is now Calais. Plus, for us, a cabin and a nice meal gets it all off to a good start.

We did consider joining, and in hindsight we'd have saved, but last few years we've got a code from kind souls on here anyway.

Next year, that might be us done in the SW. For 2016 we might look at eastern France, so Hull>Zeebrugge could make sense. It'll be a sorry day if we have to revert to Dover>Calais.

This has been useful information for me as the last trip back involved an early start to drive 300 miles to Calais, two hours queuing for Dartford tunnel, then a couple of long delays on the M25 and M1 a nightmare till we got past M6 junction and definitely NEVER AGAIN!
I remember someone I knew years ago getting discounted Brittany Ferries travel as a result of owning shares in the company.
Does anyone know if this is still an option?
