Going somewhere in France last week in May first week of June (kids half term - one of our kids has two weeks this year!) these are my wants:
- not too commercial
- around 100 - 125 pitches
- pool (not massive with slides as son is disabled and cant get on them!)
- restaurant/bar
-disabled shower facilities
- activities for a 8 yr old and 15 yr old (Disabled)
How far do you have to drive at this time of year to get decent weather?
Advice/suggestions please.

Perhaps take a look at the link below. Only an hour or so from Calais, and in a lovely peaceful area. Near the beach if you get some sunny days. Lots to see and do in the area with pretty towns such as St Valery sur Somme.
Campsite is quiet, and has an indoor pool which you will need at that time of year. Hope it helps and happy hunting!
Crach is right - the last four or five years in May/June we've stayed down on the Med because many other parts of France were colder and wetter. We follow 'the sun', looking for the best forecast once we've arrived in France, and head in that direction. You won't need to book at most sites and can just go where you please. Most sites will have absolutely loads of free pitches at that time of year.
In 2014 it's the Centenary of the start of WW1 so sites in the northern part of France, near the war graves/battlefields may have to be booked in advance.

thanks for all ideas, I never thought of not booking a site as that is what we have always done! suppose it makes it more exciting not knowing where you are going to end up!!

That's what caravanning is about - touring, with the freedom to go where you want, when you want, with your lovely home behind the car!
Enjoy it for a change - you can't do it in England.
We used to go that time of year to the Dordogne to Moulin de Paulhiac. The site is usually quiet that time of year although restaurant and bar are open. Pretty sure they had disabled facilities as one year my disabled father in law came with us (we stayed in mobile homes).Pool does have slides but plenty of room away from them in the pool - and I think that the pool is partially covered now. No activities as such(most sites only provide them in July/August) but plenty to do in the area. Site is pretty flat fom what I remember.

I agree with Val, no need to book at that time of year. We have been twice at that time of year and had no problems getting a pitch on every site we wanted to just by turning up. Its hard to get your head round after packed UK sites in our school hols.
Definetly follow the sun.

We didn't book 2012 in May/first week in June, just followed the forecast/sun. We had a week in the Loire followed by a week on the Ile De Re. Contrary to what others found, the weather was sunny most of the time (at least where we stayed) particularly the second week, otherwise we'd have upped sticks.
I agree with earlier posts, it's well worth waiting, then deciding once you're at the ferry port!
