Hi, we have just booked a return ferry to Santander next August and are camping in France for 9 night but want to cam in Northern Spain, not too far from Santander for 4/5 nights before coming home. We have 2 kids 10+13, looking for a campsite that is not too huge (the ones we have seen are 1000+ pitches, possibly around 200-400 pitches with a decent pool complex. Any ideas campers?!

we go to santa suzana in spain and right next door to the hotel is a camp site..which log cabins etc.. we had a walk on and it looks great..the campsite is right on the beach as is our hotel..not sure of the name of campsite but its in santa suzana / malgrat area

went to castle montgri 20 odd years ago when I was single..and now I have a young daughter I would love to go back with family...but we find its much cheaper to go all incvlusive in Spanish hotels rather than having to fork out on food and drink if we went back there

Don't want to appear rude but how does it work out cheaper to go all inclusive, jus don't see how it would compared to camping, perhaps you eat out all the time, or are able to go outside peak holiday times?
I have been looking for a holiday for my son and his friends and the prices are really expensive, so f you have any information would be helpful.

The sites recommended so far are in the wrong part of Spain for you, Flixta - you mean the Atlantic coast, which really is in the north, but to a lot of people the Costa Brava is the north whereas in fact it's the northern end of the southern coast of Spain - it's a bit confusing, I know!

We've stayed at Camping el Helguero at Ruiloba, not far from Santander.  It's not too huge, has a swimming pool and entertainment in summer, but isn't directly on the beach.  Another popular site in that area is Playa de Oyambre.  It's a lovely area, with good beaches and plenty of picturesque towns to visit, also the Altamira caves and the Picos de Europa.

If you look at my reviews, you'll see several in Cantabria and Asturias.
One of our favourite holiday areas.
Though most of the sites we've used have not had pool complexes ... some have river access for swimming.
This site might help.

We stayed here at the end of August, it was a big site but when we went it felt relaxed.

In a pre-erected tent so I can't say what the pitches were
Ike.

The pool complex wasn't amazing and unheated, I went for an early morning swim to wake up! Massive pools with slides seem to be hard to find spring that part of Spain.

It is on an amazing beach, so the pool situation wasn't important. It was ones those beaches that you could surf, snorkel, use a dinghy, and have safe bits for young kids.

santillana del mar and the picos De Europe are both worth a visit in the area.
