In 2014 we plan to be in our motorhome in France across the Easter period. Usually I wouldn't book ahead in April as our experience is that there is plenty of availability and we prefer to come and go as we please. However, as we will be there during the Easter period I wondered if members felt it would be advisable to book? Obviously in the UK the best spots do tend to be full at Easter. Thanks for any advice.

We're going over April(|Easter inc), we won't be booking and don't anticipate any problems headng south, never had any in the past apart from a few sites opening later than actually publicised.

There will be plenty of availability. If you have a couple of sites in mind each day when you move, you can always find a pitch. We never book, preferring to follow the best weather, and usually stop by 4pm before the evening 'rush' for pitches! Seriously, you will probably be one of the few people on site wherever you stop.

I don't think you'll have a problem at all, except perhaps in finding sites which are open! French caravanners don't caravan in 'cold' weather, ie during most periods other than mid-July to mid-August. There will be few other Brits there.

We've 'done' Easter and the only place you may have problems is possibly on beachside sites in Spain where people do celebrate the Easter period.

We've camped at Easter too. Just make sure you have enough supplies in case shops are open less. May not be an issue, but be prepared. Take an ACSI discount card of course.

even some sites that are 'closed' will still allow you on site, stick to areas with lots of sites, so you can be sure of finding somewhere, its finding somewhere open that will be the issue, NOT full sites ! don't expect those that are open to have all facilities up and running.

I agree with Dave - we went the year before last at Easter and practically all the municipals on our route were still closed, and we were given a bottle of wine for being the first caravan of the year at our first site on the Ile de Re :-) We found that many of the tourist sites that we set off to visit were closed too.
