Thinking of taking a four to five week holiday travelling down to Italy maybe see leaning tower crossing over to other coast then maybe getting a ferry over to Croatia to visit Rovinj. Has any one crossed on the Ferry, any tips would be helpful in putting this holiday trip together.

Torre Pendente is the site to use at Pisa.. Booking not required.. Can be very hot but lots of pitches have shade and it's walking distance to the tower.
Be interested in the Croatia side of it though. We are considering going there this year.. (macedonia) ..

Anconna is probably your best departure point from the north Adriatic ... see here

Are you wanting to take the caravan to Croatia or just visit as foot passengers?

If you want to go specifically to Rovinj the closest ferry port for caravans would be Zadar or Split both of which are a big trek back to Rovinj and in practical terms it is easier to drive around via Slovenia.

If you are ok with going as foot passenger from Venice then you could use Venezia Lines or one of the excursion boats but the departure times from Venice will mean that for most of the season you will be leaving Venice late afternoon and arriving early evening in Rovinj with the return journey being early morning departure from Rovinj.

I used to be an agent in the UK for some of the Adriatic ferry services so if you need any further info just let me know and I will check with my contacts as there were a few changes to services at the last minute earlier this year.

It would be possible to drive from Pisa to Rovinj with just one stop, in the Venice area.  Or you could make a detour further into Slovenia and stop again at Lake Bled, which is very pretty and has an excellent campsite.  We have done a similar journey in reverse - Istria to Bled, Bled to Venice, and Venice to Albenga - and found the distances comfortable.

What time of year are you going?  Campsites in Croatia get very full in July/August, and the weather is very hot.  We went late August and stayed four weeks ( alot of sites close down at the end of September.)  We stayed at Camping Amarin near Rovinj, but there are plenty of other sites to choose from.  It's a lovely area, plenty of interesting little towns and wonderfully clear sea.

Kelper, that link you give above refers to Azzurra Line that stopped in 2011. Direct Ferries website is well out of date!

My experience is not recent but I'd suggest that Venice is the best starting point to cross the northern Adriatic although, as someone else noted, once you're at Venice it isn't far to drive around the coast!
Why are you keen on Rovinj, for interest?
