The only time, so far, I have been caught out with gas has been in the motorhome. We were staying on a camper stop in Germany which did have electrics but it was metered and very expensive. As it was also cold I started to use gas to supplement the electrics and was horrified how quickly the gas level went down, we were only ther two days!!!

We had 5 weeks in France and Spain plus about 60 days in UK using a 6 kg bottle and still some left. We are doing 6 weeks in France and Spain in late March 2014. Taking two BP 5 kg gas lights but not expecting to break into second one.
We use gas regularly for cooking meals and often have family with us. Gas is used for the kettle and bacon sandwiches etc. during journeys, our own cafe. We use microwave for some things.

We use EHU when we go to France for 5 weeks and very rarely use gas. A 6 kg propane bottle lasts easily in actual fact we use the same bottle for 2 or 3 years.

When we had a caravan and the kids went with us we bought a french twinny das cylinder. That meant we had a 6kg calor and the french cylinder on a changeover valve. We used the twinny for the main supply and the calor for backup, we could last well over 4 weeks on the twinny but the plus side was thar when it ran out we could change it easily. When in the Uk we would use the calor. Now there are just the 2 of us in our Romahome we have 2 3.9 calor propance cylinders because we dont have space for anything bigger. We stay on aires, France Passion sites and municipals, we dont bother with electricity except in th depths of winter. We have never run out of gas yet.
