Hi, we are planning a 10 day visit to friends in Copenhagen in the summer. can anyone recommend anywhere to camp? we have looked online but can only find Eurocamp style sites on google.
We are hoping to find something more rural and off the beaten track, the sites could be anywhere in Denmark any hep would be great. Thanks Debs.

When in the summer are you going? Danish holidays are a bit earlier than ours, from June until the 1st week of August so if you are planning to go in that time you may need to book.
It's to the 'north' of Copenhagen but on a bus route straight to the city centre. It has a real mix of international visitors, showers, loos, laundry and a kitchen you can use. There's a nice beach within walking distance. It's very popular and quite small so I would recommend reserving. We have been about 4 times and love it, would not contemplating camping in Denmark without going there.
Outside of Copenhagen there are a lot of other camping grounds and places which I can recommend if you give me a bit more information about what you would like to do when you are there. One thing to note is that most sites have kitchens you can use- you need to takes plates, cutlery and pans but they have gas stoves, sometimes a microwave etc. This can save loads of space in the car, although we often take a small stove for tea if we can't be bothered to wander over to the kitchen.
Never camped that far over so haven't got any specific Copenhagen recommendations, but you may find these websites useful for tracking down campsites: The Danish Camping Union and DK-Camping.
When we went camping in Denmark quite a few years ago now you could pick up a copy of each of their directories free at campsites - I haven't looked at their websites in detail but I wonder if one or other would send you their directory?
Also worth knowing about, though not directly campsite related - If you're not in a hurry the Marguerite Route is worth looking out for - a route all around Denmark using mainly the smaller roads and the more attractive scenically. Doesn't take a direct line! Marked on all the road maps and by a daisy sign on the roads themselves though its worth following it on a map as sometimes its easy to miss the signs and take a wrong turning.
