Anybody stayed at Camping Lemgo?. Looks OK and the city looks full of history. Hopefully going end of June. Trying to avoid one of the typical German site with 400+ pitches and loads of seasonals!!

I thought this sounded familiar, I did a search and you asked that question in November; both myself and David Klyne replied. Thought I remembered it from not long ago, glad my memory hasn't suffered after Xmas!

Hi Weavers,

Just out of interest, are you coming to Lemgo with the
CC East Yorkshire Centre who have a rally at the Lemgo site in June.
We live not far away from Lemgo, just down the road in Detmold, do visit Detmold its a lovely town as is Lemgo.
Ive been stationed in Detmold for nearly 5 years and its a fantastic area to live and work.
Its a beautiful part of Germany with plenty to see a do, not so well known to brits unless of course you were stationed in these parts with the Army or RAF.

Just by chance this morning i met a lovely couple, Jan & Ted who are organising the rally in June. they are certainly planning some great excursions for rallygoers.

If you need any info about the area, just let me know.

Hi Humberflyer
Thanks for your reply
No we are not with the CC, our son who works for the MOD has recently transferred fronm rheindalen to Bielefeld and we were looking for a small (not the usual 4-500 pitch site full of seasonals as we have experienced before!!) site and this seemed to fit the bill. Our son has visited the site and it seems ok.
Understand the area has lots to see so looking forward to our trip

Lemgo is a great place to stay, with a lot to see. Every British soldier knows the area between Detmold and Paderborn, which is just a few miles south of Lemgo, because of the then very large military training area Sennelager. Just south west of Lemgo is a sight that every body who went to school in the uk learnt about, 'The Dam Busters', the dam being across the Möhnesee lake. I spent a few months in Stornoway Barracks in Lemgo attached to the then Royal Northumberland Fusiliers as a very young soldier back in the 60's. So there is a lot to see both east and west of Lemgo. Towns you must visit are Hameln, Holzminden, Höxter and the medieval town of Hann Münden, which lays between the towns of Kassel and Göttingen on Bundesstraße 3. A lot of beautiful countryside and lots of interesting towns on route.

Mike

Big Mike

Many thanks for your info above. Have recently returned from 16 days in Lemgo and, as you say, a beautiful area to visit, the half timdbered houses were everywhere. Took a visit also to Bergen Belsen whilst in the area, a very motive place.
