Have a look at the route we use, here, with plenty of overnight suggestions at a variety of places along the way. Sorry, I can't link to my Dropbox folder at the moment - email me at valathome2010 at hotmail.co.uk and I'll attach a copy.

About 250 miles from Calais ? Perhaps Camping Olivet, close to Orleans, or a few miles further down the road the municipal site at La Ferte St Aubin. Both have reviews on this forum. Take care.
Will you be travelling on or off toll roads? we did it last September and managed to get to Bourges and stayed at camping Robinson in Bourges this was I think the municipal site originally, we travelled via Rouen but mainly on toll as far as Clermand ferrand as we did not have much time and did it easily in 2 days arriving at Agde around 4pm. Hope this helps. J x

Be wild, drive until you are fatigued, find a small town and discover the nearby camping.
With 2 drivers we drove back from that region to Calais in 13 hours, every 2 hours we stopped for fuel, comfort and snacks, changed drivers and drove off.
At Calais we drove straight on to a ferry and went across. Only problem was the inedible burgers on the P&O ferry left over from a previous trip.
Last August we stopped in Tournus and stayed in the hotel st Philibert. What a great little town, full of history and lovely little eateries. The hotel is very straight forward simple and totally French, but very clean and right on the edge of the old town.
Would highly recommend

I was going to stop at Chartres but have been warned off!!! now will stop at Mercilly-sur-Eure. 1157 in new acsi book. Then onwards to Clermont Ferrand to Camping de la Filature. 1733in acsi. His wife does wonderful pies for dinner in your van! That leaves a nice run to Agde next day. I will be heading to Grau d'Agde again. Happy hols
I must admit we didn't like the 'atmosphere' at the campsite in Chartres last time we were there. We were given a leaflet about thefts and damage on the site, the toilet blocks were lacking in maintenance, dirty, and some of the door surrounds were rotting away at the bottom - just not very pleasant. The receptionist (male) was the most surly man I think I have ever met.
I must admit it was a rainy night, and there was a lot of standing water, but overall the site looked neglected and suffering from a long wet season.
Hi,
If you go the now famous Val A route, after Orleans on the A71 at junction 4 Salbris camping de sologne less than two miles off the motorway.
