I have a Freesat box, I have only ever picked up a signal from the Astra sats at 28.2. Does a Freesat box only pick up the 28.2 satellites?

If you point the dish at a different satellite the channels that satellite broadcasts will be on different transponders and frequencies to the satellite at 28.2 your box is tuned to.

Its a bit like moving around between areas of the UK you have to re-tune your telly to the local TV transmitter - it works the same with satellites - you point the dish at the one you want and then retune the satellite box to receive the channels that are being transmitted from that satellite.

Yes you can so long as they broadcast in the same band and have FTA channels. Obviously if the channels are encrypted you need a viewing card and have to pay a subscription.

The satellite I'm investigating does use encryption but its a basic sort that most satellite receivers should decode without extra viewing cards. It would seem the BBC may 'want' these channels to be available to a wider audience so may not try too hard to scramble them.

The caveat is that they may change the encryption key which will make the channels scrambled until such time as the new key is discovered and made public.

Interesting. I hope to get a decent signal all the way down France for the Masters golf next weekend, then we hope over the hills to Bilbao>Porto>Lisbon. End of signal by then methinks?
