Mark - it may not be worth you putting just a few Camping Cheques on a Silver card - as there is an 'admin fee' - but you can use them the following year if you don't use them this year.  However, there are quite a few people who are willing to sell them (usually for around £10 each).   If you're interested then it's worth enquiring as some people buy them as part of a ferry inclusive package, where the cheques bring down the cost of the ferry by more than the cost of the cheques.

There are around 300 sites in France which take them (see the website www.campingcheque.co.uk) for more information.  If you put down 24th August in the search box - both parts - you'll see all the sites on a map so you can weigh up whether there are any on the route you'll be taking.  There are 185 sites which take them from the 24th August.

Lac d'Orient is one of those sites.  Chateau du Gandspette which would make a good stopover for the port unfortunately doesn't.

I had seen some posts where they had bought cheques to just get a ferry crossing and didnt want the cheques now you mention it   Yes have stayed at Grandpette a few times The Lac d'orient is handy for us as we frequently go back via Scheveningen in Holland then Hook to Harwich but either way for Kent its good.

Have saved the sites map as a favourite and now will keep my eye out on here for cheques.

As Stuart said slightly unconnected its a few bottles of wine saved using these.
Many thanks

Uttoxeter (Race days)
Le Serignan Plage (clothed one) August and Scheveningen on way back

We went to south of france last year via Troyes from Calais, it took us about 5 hours pulling our caravan.
