We are going to Benodet last week of July. We will be getting to Calais about 1 am and want to crack on for 3 or 4 hours before stopping for a good break. Are the aires ok for grabbing a bit of sleep in the caravan, it'll only be 2ish hours

In our experience it's bit pot luck at that time of year. The popular aires that is with toilets and fuel can get very busy and it's very possible to drive right through and find no space especially with a van on back. If you are lucky to find a space it's usually in the truck section but beware of floor it smells.......The quieter aires have rudimentary toilets but no so busy. Note though if travelling on weekend you find all aires stuffed with trucks !!

Not so much Saturday but Sunday definitely

I would agree with above and suggest as you have your own facilities to utilise where possible and avoid the larger ones unless you need fuel

OP you could always overnight at a municipal if you want to break journey up and want to keep costs down of that stopover.
You are probably looking at somewhere round Caen area at 4 hours

I find that it is worth spending some time using google maps to find the better aires to stop at for lunch. I look for the ones which have a picnic area that is away from the toilets. The ones with just a small parking area or large lorry area tend to be the ones to avoid.
