Hi welshwyn.
Typical French, it took me a few attempts, due to the office either being closed for the usual 3 hour lunch, or just not staffed at all, so it is all a bit hit and miss.

I'll be going down to Brittany, so I'll have a look out for office along that route.

The bargain of them all is the Mont Blanc Tunnel tag which I have liberte evasion or something its free for 12 months full stop no fess then €1.50 a month but only in the months used    Might have changed now to 20.00 euro deposit but that's taken off your first bill. No charge for delivery as I remember and billed in arrears   cards accepted.   Many of my more miserly colleagues in France actually send it back after 12 months and get a new one on another credit card they have. We have also discovered the tags they use are also much better electronics inside them.

Good one Mark, having that Tag would save me Half a € per year! so I don't think I will be switching anytime soon, but I agree the ATMB Tag you mention has got to be the best deal in town.

I notice you only get the 1.5€ rate if you opt for electronic billing, if you decide to have paper billing then it is the normal 2€ so no problem with that.

Also they have 2 types of Tag one which you can use upto 9 months each year with no annual charge, which would be ideal for most UK folk, that's called the "e'vasion Liber-T" and then there is the unlimited use Tag simply called "Liber-T" which attracts a 14€ annual fee, fine for French folk but of little use to UK holiday makers.

APRR everytime. A bit of a faff doing the application in French but much cheaper than SANEF UK.

That sounds better.

I have a Tag axle (3 inline axles) motorhome which when paying at the toll booths is expensive as three axle vehicles are another class up...my Sanef tag only charges me for a normal motorhome so saves me a fortune.

No its not worth anyone switching tags I grant you its for those that have not got one as the 9 month one is free full stop and no postage costs, it can save about € 15 euros in first year eg delivery 12 and two month usage 3 euros (say holiday 24th July to 8th August). I think my aim was primarily to avoid giving SANEF any more money then they deserve which is not a lot in my book.

Toll in France with Liber-t

Toll payment made easy!
Stick the Liber-t Box to the windscreen and drive through every toll station* without stopping! Order now ...
Tolls (péage) are levied in France for all vehicles on many motorways by several toll operators. Only in Alsace, Lorraine, Brittany and on parts of the A75 can motorways be used largely free of charge. This also applies on motorways in urban areas.
Toll charges depend on distance and the tariff amount depends on the type of vehicle. The toll amounts also depend on the costs for building the route.
Automated toll payment used to be only possible for users with a French bank account. But now tolltickets and its service partners provide a Liber-t Box to all European users outside France - without the need for a French bank account! You only need to register and in a few days you receive your Liber-t Box from tolltickets.

Toll payment in France

Fully automated toll recording by means of a small electronic receiver (Liber-t). This device is simply fixed to the windscreen.
Use the reserved lanes with no queues or waiting.
Caution
On many motorway exits in France you can only pay at automats without personnel by credit card or with cash. It is easier and safer to pay with the Liber-t Box!
You can use any lane marked with the logo "t".

The Liber-t Box can be used with the following vehicles:
The Liber-t Box can be used with all category 1, 2 and 5 vehicles. In addition, the Liber-t Box can be used to pay parking charges automatically in many parking blocks.**
Liber-t: Category 1

Vehicles (inclusive trailer) with up to 2 m high and a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) up to and including 3.5t drawing vehicle). You can use any fully automated lanes - recognisable by the symbol "t".

Vehicles with roof box or bicycle: Please use the lanes without height limit and the "t" symbol!
Liber-t: Category 2

Vehicles (inclusive trailer) with a height between 2 m and 3 m and a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) up to and including 3.5t drawing vehicle). Please use the lanes without height limit and the "t" symbol!

TIS-PL: Category 3

Vehicles (including trailers) with 2 axles and a height of 3 meters or a maximum permitted weight of 3.5 tons
TIS-PL: Category 4

Vehicles (including trailers) with 3 or more axles and a height of 3 meters or a maximum permitted weight of 3.5 tons.
Liber-t: Category 5 - motorcycles

Motorcycles should always use the lanes for all vehicle categories (no height limitation) with a "t" logo. If the motorcycle is uing a lane with "t" logo and with a height limitation, the toll will be charged for a category 1 vehicle.
Parking blocks
Liber-t can be used in many parking blocks in France. More information at:
If you have driven into a lane without the "t" symbol, then you must take the vehicle device out of its holder and hand it over to the toll station personnel for recording the transaction manually.

Vehicles in other categories (trucks and busses over 3.5 t) need the special TIS-PL Box. Please contact us. We will gladly send you a separate offer.

The advantages at a glance:
No French giro account needed.
No stopping at toll stations
Stress-free driving in France
No cash necessary
The toll charge is settled by means of your legal tender (credit card, fuel card, bank account, etc.)
Accepted throughout the entire French toll road network.*
No tiresome asking for vouchers at the toll station.
A statement of account for all your vehicles with an individual documentation of each journey per vehicle (no individual receipts at each toll station).
Simple and convenient settlement of toll payments.
Right-hand drive vehicles: no awkward payment over the passenger.
Parking without cash in many parking blocks.

* except the Mont Blanc and Frejus tunnels.
** In special cases or if disruptions happen, the Liber-t Box can also be used as a direct payment method. In this case, simply take the box out of its holder and give it to the toll station personnel.
