Hi folks
Well after much deliberation I think we are going to go for one of these 2. Both have large full service pitches available to us, both are close to the beach and both have a town area to walk into which is on our checklist. We have 2 kids 8 and 5 and a dog.

Whilst I know dogs on the beach is not allowed interestingly the reception at du Letty said when the weather is grey or the beach is not busy (morning/evening) you can take your dog on the beach without too much trouble - quote... not sure about this but if it works out will treat it as a bonus.

Anyone got an opinion one which to plump for? Benodet and Carnac both seem similar holiday towns.

Thanks
Duncan

Hmm difficult choice. I`'ve been to both. We had a nice pitch in les Menhirs, but it was surrounded by statics. There were other pitches in a camping area that would have been better. It is a nice site and very clean. Du Letty is great too, more tents and caravans. Our pitch at Du letty wasn't very big. Overall I preferred the beach at Carnac. It's long and sandy with warm shallow water. The beach at Du Letty is quite stony but a nice walk and fun for crabbing. I found Carnac a better town. A nice market, lots of restaurants and a range of shops. Carnac plage is a pleasant stroll from the site and is lively in the evening with ice creamshops and cafes. Benodet was pleasant but quiet and not so much choice. The pool complex at Du Letty wins though. The pool at Les Menhirs is fine but smaller. Our children made more friends at Du letty, it's a more open site. I'm still not sure which I'd pick between the two. Weather was much better at Carnac though.

Having been to both towns - although not stayed at Du Letty - my personal preference is for Carnac Plage - a greater choice of restaurants and shops etc in the town centre.

Carnac always seems to have a better "sun count" being that bit closer to the Vendee.

On the counter Du Letty is far more orientated towards the tourers whereas in Les Menhirs there is a much greater proportion of Statics and Tents.

I did wonder about the weather factor between the two so thanks for that input. Welcome any other comments

Carnac is gorgeous and in my opinion much nicer than Benodet. If you arent taken with Les Menhirs have a look at Grande Metarie which may be better for teens.
Carnac is great for evenings out, nice creperies etc
The beach is fab

I have been to Les Menhirs, but not the other. I would say do think about what type of campsite that you like. We stayed there for a week a few years ago. The site is very large and wasn't very well maintained. There were some very specific issues with our pitch. We actually made a complaint to the C&CC on our return and they did give us a discount for our next holiday.

I have stayed in Carnac twice however on both occasions it rained most of the time - which hasn't helped. The second site that we used was cheaper than Menhirs, further out which was the down side but was better maintained, smaller and friendly. There are some real positives about Carnac and the area, but I wouldn't go to Menhirs. Le Moustoir is where we stayed a couple of years ago. I notice it is now showing as a 4* site, which I don't think it was when I went. We did think that it was a good site.
Hope this helps.

We took the dog to Du Letty on our first visit and had no bother with him on the beach. In fact i was not aware you could not take dogs on the beach..............
