Normal ant killer powder that you can get from the supermarket works. The ants walk through it, it sticks to them and they take it down into their nests and hopefully it kills the colony. Hence you won't see dead ants lying all over the place but after a few hours you shouldn't see many live ones either. The evenings are the best time to treat when the ants are active and just before they return to the nest for the night.

When you arrive on site immediately put a complete circle of ant powder around the jockey wheel, each caravan tyre, and each steady. This stops the ants getting into the caravan. If they bother you in the awning, put a 'decoy' food source somewhere under a hedge, well away from the awning, and they'll go there instead of looking for food in your awning.

If there are any ants or wasps we always build 'beer' traps and put them to the side of the pitch. Filled with a mix of beer and sweet drinks it will soon become full of the pests.

I have found Nippon ant power quite effective. On one site in Italy I put it all round the perimeter of the ground sheet and it seemed to work quite well.

Ditto those plastic discs. Best one I've found is called Ant Stop, bait station, red and black label. Think b&q have them. The ants go inside, take the poison back to the nest and they all die.
I used to have real trouble in my kitchen , ant nests all over the garden, but nothing since using these. Wonder how quick this method is though, if it's just on holiday perhaps the powder is more 'immediate'.

Maxforce LN bait stations. Approved for use on lawns (most insecticides are not - think dead bumbles bees etc. It is also for amateur use and i can't think of any others that also contain imidacloprid that are readily available. If the ants happen to be Pharaoh ants it is easier to move to another location!

I don't think ants can read - but they can certainly find our decoy dishes! Over a week a whole hard boiled egg with only a tiny hole in the shell will be gradually whittled away and removed.
