Has anyone else done this route. We are enquiring about the availability of Services ie petrol staions along the Auto Pista AP68 and AP2. Are there plenty of places to stop for a stretch and top up on diesel? Any guidance welcome.

If you look here, you'll see the route ... you can click on petrol pump icon and it will show all petrol stations ... other clicks will get you other results.
Loads of places to stop for a stretch!
Catch the Guggenheim at Bilbao ... don't sail round the motorway!
Logrono has a good cathedral and a collection of some of the best eateries in the north of Spain.
Zaragoza has loads to see ...
Lleida is worth a stop ...
But it all depends on what sort of things you are interested in ...

Thank you, that's great. Will be dashing through in June but slower back in July, will stop at Bilbao then. Thanks again

The early part is very green ... La Costa Verde ... then gets progressively dryer ... though where you follow the Ebro valley there is verdant relief ... a lot of pretty flat plains with distant mountains ... Google earth gives you quite a good idea ... zoom in at various points along the route and you'll see collections of other people's photos ... e.g.
here
and here
Both between Logrono and Zaragoza ...
But loads more in Google.

Hi there,
when are you planning the trip and how long for?.
We live in spain and have doe for 13 years, most road are great for towing and the mountains are good depending on what you pull and use as a tow car, but watch the temptation to pull through the small free.

Now many of the motorway service areas do not allow more than two hours free parking and charge for overnight, up side is these car parks have security patrols on site.
the main coast AP7 has toll booths for maost of its length so look for the a7 routes.

Have a great time and if I can help any mopre let me know

Hi Donebyterry, we are heading for the Costa Dorada June to July (4 weeks). Our first trip with a medium sized motor home, all our concerns are, are there plenty of petrol stations on the motorways and any high bridges? Also, on Google Maps cannot find large supermarkets, I take it that Spain is somewhat different to France where there are huge Hypermarkets at most towns? Are heading from Santander to overnight at Zaragosa then on to the southern Costa Dorada (L'Ametlla for a start) any hints & tips would be gratefully received. Thank you

Chris

I don't know what the med is like, we were on the
Atlantic coast last year and most of the supermarkets were small and didn't have loads of variety. If you wanted canned tomatoes, pasta and frozen octopus you were alright!

As much as I like cooking and trying local ingredients I may take a few jars of pesto and *whispers* curry sauce this year.

Ok.

I'm leaving the site in Noja. Going to see where the ski slope are n the Rioja region. Visit the paleontologist centre in Enciso. Monestry or wine related thing I'd we pass one. sleep some where not too far away.

We can't get into the next place on the med until 4pm. Get up, lunch in somewhere like Zaragoza, or further on. Find a supaermarket. Find campsite.

On the way home we'll leave early and go straight to Logrono. Next day we're dang bilbao and the Guggenheim. Staying in bilbao and getting on the ferry the next morning.

Sorted :)

Not a lot of Skiing in La Rioja ... Valdezcaray is about the best, and not very big .... much better skiing in the Pyrenees ... Formigal can be excellent, though if it's windy it's 'brass monkeys'.

Yes ... but Almeria is a long way south of La Rioja ... be a bit of a lengthy detour!

Chris, there are plenty of large supermarkets in Spain, including several French chains - Auchan, Carrefour, Leclerc and Intermarche.  Also some good Spanish ones such as Mercadona and Eroski. There's Aldi and Lidl too.  We've always found a wide range of products and very good prices - fresh meat and fish very cheap, good wine for less than 2 euros a bottle.
