You should watch some of the Documentaries on Indian ship breakers.
They get as much off the ship as is possible and then run it at the beach as fast as they can go.
Then swarms of mateys take the thing to bits with sledge hammers and cold chisels
The conditions in the re-smelting works are even more frightening. There are people running around in shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops all the while white hot Rebar is rushing past them like a very angry snake
A fine ship, built for the route and has served it well. I've worked on her and she was a good 'un.
What they don't tell you on the clip is that she didn't get square on the beach the first time around and had to go astern and try again! (she didn't want to go!)
Aw, that's quite sad, especially what Scufts said! Brought a lump to the throat as we've all sat here sharing Dover Calais ferry memories this morning!
